I asked this guy who knew i liked him to the winter formal and he said yes at first. Then, he called me up 2 days later and said he couldn't go since he had already been set up with someone else the previous term and he didn't know about it. Things have been even MORE awkward between us lately! I know he's really shy but he's been avoiding me recently, although I've heard a few rumors that he might like me back. Anything I can do to improve the situation...?

i bet you all ready know what you have to do to find out.. very hard, but ask him point blank... if you dont have the courage then think of this( which makes me want to go for it) that you only live once and you should make it count, you dont want to wounder what could have been...

There is nothing you can do that can improve this situation. Leave him alone he's making excuses. That's not being shy that's being a jerk. Maybe he did agree to go with someone else, but in actuality, it's more probable that you were his last resort until the person he liked asked him or he got the nerve to ask them and they said yes. So yeah ask someone else and move on. Rumors are just what they are....rumors. You can't believe them, if you do you'll be dragged down with them. Good luck babe!

Well, sorry about the whole thing about him being set up with someone else. The truth is, if you guys are close enough friends tell him that you don't want things to be weird with each other, regardless the fact that he's going to go with someone else. If he's really shy he probably won't do anything to fix the situation, so you're going to have to take action. He shouldn't be avoiding you about the winter formal thing, you should tell him that. Well, that's just what I wthink anyways. Hope that helped :)

Sounds to me like he feels bad for having to call and cancel with you so he may just be embarrassed to show his face and talk to you.Either that he feels like maybe you are upset with him for doing it.
Best thing you can do is go up to him and smile and say, hey, Its o-k that you canceled and that your not upset with him and that you hope he isn't upset with you.I am sure he will answer you letting you know he is not at all mad at you and just felt bad.
Then if I was you I would say, hey, why don't we go do something else together instead of the formal? Like go see a show or something. I am almost certain by you showing him you are understanding and show him that him not going to the formal with you hasn't changed how you feel about him,He will be glad to go hang with you and maybe, just maybe might even decide to blow the other girl off for the formal and go with you because of it!

this may or may not help but if he had been set up with someone the term before but he did like you then wouldn't he have dropped the person he was set up with?!?! you don't really want to spend all of your life guessing and you'll spend forever not knowing so ask him out and if he says no well nothings really that different from before and if he says yes well true love!!!
