THANK YOU! Ive been wanting someone to ask that. ya know, if we would just tax the shite out of church land like we do to the middle and lower classes, we could easily half our deficit. the other half would come from legalizing, regulating, and taxing the sell of marijuana.

Since the framing of the Constitution, all churches have been exempt from taxes. They are in the category of a non-profit organization. They use the money from donations (which are tax deductible every year) for building and/or maintaining the buildings (churches and rectories) and paying the utilities on these structures. Any amount of money that the priest make is very meager, at best. The Church's also donate food, clothing and time and only accept donations. That's why they are exempt.

They should. And...under current law, if a 501(c)(3) non-profit like a church does so....they can be in big trouble with the IRS.

All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena, CA is finding that one out right now the hard way.

Because in this country, if you make a statement to improve the government, you will be accused of being a traitor. If you make a statement to improve the church, you will be accused of being a heretic. You can't win in America.

They are all run like businesses, they hire workers and demand payment (tithes) for their services rendered. They certainly should. I felt so bad when my daughter came home from church one day and said to me, "Mom, I thought you could go to church for free."

I fail to see why Christianity which tries to keep the morals of government just, and in line with Gods revealed laws should be taxed.

thus... the seperation of church and state... they don't pay taxes...

should be political involvement, but it's not, it's only for the taxes...
