What would you do?

Jump out with just your floating seat thingy? Besides, the cabins are pressurized. You couldn't jump out. And if you broke a window, you wouldn't have to jump out, because you would be sucked out instantaneously. I thought about that too. There have been people in that predicament, and I wonder at their last thoughts. How horrifying.

I would prepare for a water ditching or a forced landing, even though the plane may recover to normal flight. To the extent it doesn't violate instructions from the crew and I am physically able, here's what I would do until the plane recovers:
- If not already there: return to my seat (or any seat) and tightly belt myself in.
- Find ID (passport or driver's lic.), cash and anything else of extreme importance which is in my purse/carry-on and put those items on my person (in pockets, underwear, socks, wherever they won't inhibit a safe evacutation, but I am sure they will stay with me).
- Locate a pen (in my purse) and write my name on an arm or leg.
- Prepare my clothing: put on shoes, jacket, take off headphones, remove loose jewelry, etc. If you are wearing nylon stockings (I never fly with these) remove them. They will melt to your skin from friction if you have to go down an emergency evacuation slide.
- Remind myself where my exit options are, locating them visually and counting rows if I can.
- Stow any loose items as best I can. (Tray-table up, of course.)
- Put seat back up. Take a brace position.
- Keep calm, and follow crew instructions. Remind myself of the emergency card info (partly to keep calm) -- how to go down a slide, how the various exits open, how to put on life vest ...

You don't mention a decompression. But in that event, I would obviously put on the oxygen mask at my earliest opportunity. (Remember to tug one time on the mask - that will dislodge the pin so the oxygen generator starts its chemical reaction.)

If the crew announces preparation for a water ditching, I would put on life vest.

I have been told that many passengers die of heart attacks before the impact. At least it's quick and better than wasting away from some horrible ailment.
