Are you kidding me? The most I paid for a well bred, pedigree American pitbull terrier with champion linage was $500. Pure Rocca bloodlines. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are looking up "Bully" pit bull sites? They are the lastest "Fad" in pitbull exploitation. Which actually aren't even pitbulls at all. But hybrid mixes. Usually pit, or american staffordshire mixed with some sort of mastiff - English bulldog etc to make them look big, beefier slobbery & mean. If they are UKC (United Kennel Club) or ADBA (American Dog Breeders Association) papered the papers are usually forged. I Guess someone with too much money is willing to fork over the dough. Like they say. There's a sucker born every minute.

Here's the thing - these are one of the most overbred dogs by unethical backyard breeders. You know the ones - the ones who have it as a status dog and want to make money selling puppies. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS TYPE OF PERSON!! They regularly sell in newspaper ads, internet ads, on craig's list, etc. Buying from these people supports the killing of what's estimated to be hundreds of thousands of pit bulls each year.

Pit Bulls are ALWAYS abundant in urban cities and even suburban areas. Try using http://www.petfinder.com to see if you can find any, and also try http://www.pbrc.net/ for additional information and additional dogs available. A rescue from one of these groups may be as little as $50 or as much as $300+.

If your heart is set on a purebred and papered puppy, then only use a responsible breeder. They will only sell to a good home and will require spay/neuter for all non-show quality pups. These breeders screen for disposition and genetic defects in parent dogs, and usually 3-5 generations back. You are less likely to get a sick or mean dog if you use a responsible breeder. And, you won't be supporting moronic backyard breeders. There are several different breeds that most people consider "Pit Bulls", American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, so narrow down you search by visiting http://www.akc.org . This will also link you to national breed clubs that will usually have breeder information.

Remember, a good breeder isn't just selling 'show dogs' - at least 50-75% of the puppies they have are just pet quality pups. They'll have the great genetics, great lines, and great disposition, but will be half the cost of a show dog. Expect these to run anywhere from $500 to $1000 - the prices are high to weed out trashy buyers who will mistreat the dog.

http://dogplay.com/GettingDog/index.html will also help you figure out who is a good breeder and who is just contributing to the overpopulation problem.

Good luck to you in your search. : )

A pure breed can cost up to 6 or 7 hundred dollars but you can go to an amimal shelter and find so many pitbull puppies that need good homes and it will only cost about $100.

I live in the state of Texas and yes you can buy pit bull, puppies or full grown for $100, or $150.00 each, but a sound of advice from Laredo, Texas they are illegal, and if you get to buy one make sure it is a puppy because you can train them to be good guard dogs and very loyal to it's owners and no one else. Those dogs are fighting dogs and they will attack if the owner will tell them to do it. My sons used to have them and when one of them got loose he would go and fight with the other Dog, and the only way you could loose the grip they had on each other would be with a screw driver or a heavy stick between their teeth. When the last dog died of complications with a cough he had, was when I put my foot down and told them no more Pit bulls. So, think about it first before you get one.

Pitties range from free, to thousands. It depends on the color, the blood line, everything. Do not pay over $50 for a dog that is not vaccinated or wormed. Please make sure the puppy you are buying has been vaccinated and is healthy. There is nothing worse than falling in love with a puppy that develops PARVO and dies in front of your face.

I recently bought a wonderful red nose pit bull puppy for $50. He didn't have any shots or anything, but my mom works for a vet and I got the hookup. The dumb people were trying to sell unregistered and unvaccinated dogs for like $200. PSSH! Don't let them rip you off. Also, make sure you know the puppy's background. You don't want to have to re-train someone elses mistakes. If they shoved it in a yard and didn't play with it for 2-3 months after it was born- chances are it is not socialized and you will have problems getting him used to other dogs and people. Start from scratch with a 6-8 week old baby and kennel train it. And PLEASE make sure you socialize it with all kinds of people and other dogs to prevent it from becomming aggressive later on! :)

Depends on who you are buying from,

Dog food, vet bills, training, leashes and collars, and dog houses all cost money. Money you may not have right now. A quality dog food can cost as much as $800 per year. Do you have this kind of extra money to spend on food? If not, wait until you do before you bring home that puppy.

by reading these answers all i can say is people are retarded, and very very closed minded. Pitbulls are great dogs very kid friendly and very protective of there owners, this dog will take a bullet for you and ask for nothing more then your love and companionship. they are the best dogs for cuddling with and the best dogs for athletic activitys. if you need a running partner this is the dog for you. if you want a dog who will give you nothing but love and friendship this is the dog for you. But please don't buy one because there are so many that need a good home, just visit your local humane society and save one of there lives.

it depends on who you buy it from, what breed and male or female. i bought a blue nose male for 800. but a red nose female for 300. it all depends. if you have a paper with want ads in it, see if there are any for sale, and look at them, or go to your local animal shelter. keep in mind though that a lot of shelters euthanize pitbulls because people are too afraid to own them. make sure you contact your local city hall and see if they are legal in your city or not. and please if you are serious about owning one, read all the information you can on them, and socialize it and love it. dont let everyone tell you that they will turn on you. it depends on how you raise it and socialize it.
