I think all US Citizens should learn Spanish or French or Italian or German... it doesn't matter which language, as long as they come out of that eggshell and learn that learning foreing languages makes one culturally richer!

And by the way, Mexicans, Brazilians, Argentinians, etc, are -by definition- also Americans. America is a continent, not a country.

I am a native born legal American,I speak English,French-Cajun,Spanish and I am learning Japanese.I learned to speak Spanish as a child from people that worked for my parents.I learned to speak French -Cajun to be able to talk to some of my husbands older family members. And I am learning Japanese because I have business dealings in Japan.
All except English I learned by choice.
No American should ever be forced to learn any foreign language unless they want to.
And especially not for the illegal alien trespassers.
No ,I do not think Americans should learn Spanish. This is an predominantly English speaking country (85%speak English as their first language)and we do not need to do anything unless we choose to do for ourselves.

I learned Chinese (Mandarin). Why? Because I visited their country and was graciously accepted according to law. If I got 'out of line', they told me and I quickly worked to comply.

I've been called "fundamentally bad" (in Spanish) for not speaking Spanish. I refuse. I tell them I speak Chinese, Amharic, some Korean & Japanese and others but not Spanish and these illegals vilify me!

I marvel at the myriad undergirdings of mis-aligned logic that must support such bizarre conceptions. It does the mind good to traverse the sickened intracacies on which their twisted minds give chase.

No I don't think anyone SHOULD learn a language if they don't want to. But Spanish would be handy if you visit a Spanish speaking country.

No.....I'm not going to learn any language to satisfy any group of immigrants ,legal or illegal who come to this country. It's their job to learn English. How many languages to think Americans should be forced to learn with each new wave of immigrants? I'm asking them to learn 1. Just 1. English.

NO, NO, NO, NO. They need to go HOME. My taxes pay for their free medical fees, for their children to crowd our schools, for their food stamps and welfare and everything else they need. The perks of being a criminal are pretty good. They have more rights than we do! I will never learn spanish nor will I attempt to recognize anyone who speaks it to me.
