You SHOULD treat it exactly the same as if you did not know the person. If you work for a large company with more than one bookkeeper, there is probably a policy that requires someone else handle your relative's account.

it depends on if I like that family member or not. What do you mean by send it off to collections? Do you mean a collection agency?

No, my sister is delinquent $1200 to my business right now, I just periodically check to see how she is doing and if her situation has improved enough to make a payment.

I would like to think that I would call them first to see if they could take care of the acct. and let them know that it was my job to send them to collections, but I was giving them a chance right now to straighten it out.
