The United Kingdom, the law relating to burglary is covered under the Theft Act 1968 which states that where a person, upon indictment, is convicted of burglary, is liable to a sentance of imprisonment of up to 10 years for non-dwelling burglaries, for dwelling burglaries, a term of up to 14 years.

Aggravated Burglary, where it is committed with a weapon to cause injury, or firearm (including imitation firearms) or even explosives, you are liable to a term of imprisonment of up to life.

However all is at the discretion of the Justice at the sentancing phase of the trial after hearing mitigating circumstances if any.

"burglary" as you have used it is a "felony" in most states meaning that you can be incarcerated in a State prison for more that 2 1/2 years. Of course, you may receive a lesser sentence in a local jail or house of correction. it really depends on your criminal history

If it's non-dwelling [nobody lives there] then a slap on the wrist. If it's a dwelling place then you need to look like you've stopped it or you have a chance of going down. If it's repeated on dwelling places, then you know what happens...... Get out of it kid and get to college.
