For a normal delivery 2 days-csection 3 days. It is in your best interest to stay-for you and the baby. I'm not sure on the laws but I wouldn't go less then what your dr and baby's dr says. They have reasons why you have to stay-aske questions. You could even call the maternity ward of your hospital and ask right now-they will be able to explain better and give you some answers.

They CANT make you stay...no matter what state you live in. You can be released AMA ---against medical advice. You will have to sign papers like no tomorrow, but no hospital can keep you...unless you are on the psych floor.

If you have a normal delivery, and the baby is fine, talk to your doc. You could leave as soon as you want if you check out okay, but why not just give it 24 hours at least??. He can check you over and d/c you. But take the time...why the hurry?

I don't know what state you live in - but here I think all first time moms are required to stay in the hospital for 2 days - to make sure baby and mother are doing alright & that the mother is prepared to handle a new baby. (It's really a God send - you won't get much sleep in the upcoming months so take advantage of it and relax!)

It is at least 24 hours sometimes 2 days. It depends on when you go in and give labor. If it in the morning you should be out next evening. They have to keep you and baby to make sure all is well. I know it sucks, but it is required. Good Luck

Well It would probley be best if you stayed 1 day. With my first child I had him at 1 am , and I took him home left at 7 am that same morning. I told the dr. I was going home with or without his permission.... So he let me.

baby # 2 I stayed for 3 days due to complications

So it really depends on u and the dr.

I think that you need to stay at the hospital for at least 24 hours after the baby is born. But, honestly, you won't really want to go anywhere afterwards. You'll be happy for the time you have to recover... where the nurses can take care of the baby while you sleep.

the baby has to stay for at least 2 days for testing and stuff like that. you wouldn't have to stay. you could leave, but you would have to leave your baby there. which i know that you would not want to do.

when i had my baby i stayed for 2 days and 1 night. and you can call the nursery whenever you want to see your baby. and they bring you your baby. it's actually not that bad. they take good care of you after the delivery. they tend to your every need. it's really nice.

You can arrange for a 6 hour discharge. so if u gave birth in the early hours of morning you could go home same day or if u had baby late in the evening go home next morning.

A friend of mine had her water break at 11am, she had delivered her daughter by 6pm the same day, and the very next day she was released. She didn't tear and the baby was fine. So it just depends on the delivery. Good luck and congrats

Yes, you do have to stay in the hospital but it varies how long you stay. It all depends on how easy or difficult it was giving birth.
