Sanctity.
Whether or not you believe in a greater being, you are surrounded by stones that have been soaked for centuries in the ordinary prayers, fears, joys and grief of countless humble people.
Our local church is 900 years old. Walk in any weekday and the place is full of it.

I know what you mean it's kinda the dusty smell that hits you when you go in combined with that unmistakable odor of 50 year old farts (I don't mean farts as in a nasty term for old people I mean farts as in gass that someone did 50 years ago).
Anyway, it's just the wierd feel and usually the size and shape. And quite often for me it's quite empty which kinda creeps me out a little.

Whatever it is, I like it, and I'm an atheist. Christian churches and cathedrals everywhere do that to you. It's a feeling you can't quite grasp.
