How did you find your religion, and how do you keep faith?

Everytime I hear any new religious belief, I immediately feel like taking it on, and a short time later, I lose all interest. This goes for most every denomination of Christianity, and many religions around the world, nature-based, monotheist, polytheistic, pantheistic, non-theistic etc. Yes, many would call this gullability, but I don't know how to change it, at any rate.

People say 'pray' - I pray, I feel I have answers, I get baptised, a few weeks later I feel I lose them, and I leave the church.

How do you avoid being taken in by religions? How did you find the one you like, and stick to it?

And please, don't just say 'don't have a religion' or 'there is no such thing as God' or anything along those lines, because without a belief system, I'm awful. I really am. We're talking violence, self-harm, suicide attempts, fruad, theft... let's just not go there, I need codes to live by!

Thankx!

xXx

Personally, I believe that religion should be a personal thing. However, my views are a bit tainted because i always had religion forced down my throat. i didnt feel the burning desire to rebel or anything like that, but i want to show my independence and do what I believe. Organized religion isn't for everyone. if you hear a spiritual belief or aspect of a religion that you truly want to adopt into your own life, then go for it. you dont have to categorize yourself into a mold you dont fit. really ask yourself if the religious practice you are considering keeping will help YOU personally become a better person, if you think you need any improving. Some people dont think they need to become better and there is nothing wrong with that. I do have a skewed vision on religion but i feel that you should stick with whatever certain aspects of ANY amount of different religions you believe because most organized religions really arent all that different from each other when you get to their core beliefs.

Hope this helped, MIKE

Well, the important thing would be finding a religion that had satisfying answers, and doesn't lose all credibility on closer inspection.

To avoid getting "taken in" bear in mind... The Bible is the source that all teachings from the religion should come from. Find the religion that adheres to these teachings, all of them, and "sticking to it" won't be such a problem. The Bible has many clear guidelines of what defines a Christian, now its up to you to find the religion that embodies that definition.

I was raised Catholic, and maintained that religion on my own for several years after leaving my parents' home. At a certain point, I discovered that I could no longer live with the hypocracies that were evident to me in that 'religion' - so I left the church. I maintain my relationship with God, through prayer and unfaltering faith.

The most important thing for you is to have faith in God...not organized religions. And if you are looking for rules to live by, try these two, before you act in any situation:

1. Do no harm to yourself or any other person
2. What would Jesus do?

Stopping and thinking about those two things will help to keep you on the right path. And above all else...ask God to help you. He always has helped me.

I knopw Judaism has the '2 or more witnesses' principle: I presently think the Muslims have it, and I know the 'Christians' have it (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1) in scripture; but here in the USA, the principle is not applied thoroughly by many.
Applying it, puts one above much 'opinions'; eespecially in the USA. Combined with 2 Tim. 3:16-17, the old testament becomes the law of Moses not Genesis-Malachi.
May you receive today a pleasant surprise to God's glory!!!

very sturdy question Michael. some human beings come out the different ingredient and that they lose their faith. ( "If there's a God, why did He enable this ensue?") For a number of, God seems recent, even in the midst of the main annoying activities. you may make the argument that considered one of those sentiment is a clarification, assisting somebody take care of that which might commonly be overwhelming. despite if, i'm banking the reality that there is a providential God in heaven, who finally is sovereign, and conscious of all that we pass with the aid of.

Your question reminded me of these words of St.Augustine. If you truly seek you will find what you are looking for. The 2000 year old Roman Catholic Church is the only ark of salvation for mankind. I hope you will find the following article helpful in your quest.
