Doctors used to assume that smoking marijuana could cause lung cancer, just like smoking tobacco. Because smoking is smoking, right? Wrong! A recent study unexpectedly revealed that even heavy marijuana smokers have no increased chance of contracting lung cancer. In fact, believe it or not, heavy use may even reduce your chances of getting lung cancer.
Just another reason it should be as legal as alcohol and cigarettes.

Well actually the medical marijuana is of high quality, so you arnt going to find added chemicals in it, and also there is no scientific proof that it causes lung cancer. In fact science shows us right now that it can prevent cancer growth. New creations such as vaporizers have been created and these new inventions are a proven safe way to get the thc from cannabis. With a vaporizer the thc that is ingested is virtually 100% tar free, and is not hard on the lungs at all. Thc pills are available as well, and you can use cannabutter for cooking purposes such as brownies. To answer your question I believe the medical patients should be worry free from the use of their medicinal marijuana. Its good there is medical marijuana out there instead of addicting harmful pills or other prescriptions with some nasty side effects. Unless they smoke death sticks of course that's a guarantee to cancer.

The tar in marijuana smoke, unlike the tar in tobacco, is water soluble, therefore it actually promotes your lungs to secrete
fluids which cleanse the lungs naturally, of other impurities.
Marijuana burns hotter than tobacco, therefore it's healthier
to medicate using a water pipe(bong) or a newer device called
vapourizers.

Cancer is one of the things they prescribe medical marijuana for. There are several other conditions as well.
Other ways of getting it in your system then smoking, and many different strains of it out there. Be careful if buying it off the streets, never no what you are going to get...

You put yourself at risk for cancer by smoking ANY substance.. cancer patients who smoke it do so to alleviate pain and are usually at the terminal(dying) stage any way. in addition to cancer risks marijuana can have fungus and bacteria on its leaves and buds and they can do some nasty things to your lungs and other bodily systems. if you must use it at all, there are filtration devices that reduce the smoke to a thc concentrate you inhale... no smoke involved. the best thing to do is not smoke it at all.
