Very few people understand how the western world mental illness is different from other cultures. Even fewer people know that there is an insult unto death that can be given by friends and family. A person doing suicide has reach a full psychotic level where language and ideas have degenerated and normal logic is impossible. It is a sad thing but the individual is not even feeling all the pain when the mind is put into disassociation of input and output of thought. only those who have experienced this can explain it to you but very few ever make it back to sanity and safe social groups. Because there are so many unknowns about this emotional issue answers will not form a simple pattern .

So sorry to hear about your friend, being left behind to deal with the consequences of a suicide is a very sad place to be.

I think that some people think that yahoo answers isn't the right place for a real suicide question. There have been a lot of people pretending to be suicidal on yahoo answers, so its the 'cry wolf' situation. Some people have very strong views on suicide regarding religion and believe it is a selfish act. All of these reasons can contribute to the answers that a suicide question might get. I wouldn't say they were simple, just that its a very emotive area which stirs different feelings.

Warmth and Smiles.

jackie i am so sorry about the loss of your friend.
regarding suicide posts...i sometimes wonder about whether they should even be allowed. im talking about the kind where its obvious that the person posting is needing attention. let me explain why i feel this way. i have OCD, and i would imagine that mnay of the people who visit a mental health board have some kind of issue as well. having said that.....for many of us, reading about someone who could be anywhere in the world, and yet posting at that moment about thoughts of suicide, can really tear a reader up! for those of us who are strong obsessions about responsibilty, we may really get VERY upset about being able to "save" this person.it can become obsessive, to the point where the reader can become sick with worry.
my feeling is that if posts about suicide are allowed, answers should only be that professional help be sought.
many mental health message boards and chats have a "no suicide talk" policy for this reason.

yes there will be insensitive people who give insensitive answers in EVERY category. there will also be insensitive ASKERS who ask questions just for attention, not knowing that the reader may truly become very concerned for them.

Some people just want the points and spend about 100th of a second thinking of their answer. Then with every other forum on the internet you get your trolls.

Some people just need to make themselves feel better by dumping on someone else...unfortunately, when asking on a site like this, it's just going to happen.
Try not to feed into it. If you respond with your own insult, then you're just as bad as they are.

Aren't you a bit narrow minded to call them sick?! They probably just dont agree, and yes I'm one of the people who answer, but not insult (unless necessary).

their not sick. They probably just don't understand what the other has gone through. most answer through their experiences, and some never had a problem with this so they don't know how to cope
