Hi All! I go to College, and right now there seems to be a lot of people sick around here. I try to be very clean, meaning that I wash my hands often, sanitize my hands often, and take Airborne. But, there have been a few incidences today that make me wonder if i can hold up and not get sick. Today in class, the person sitting right nect to me sneezed, and i am not sure whether he covered his mouth. He was also coughing and sniffling quite a bit The thing is, I am going home this weekend and really don't want to get sick, so a) do you think I will get sick from this person, b) what can i do that I am not doing in order to prevent myself from getting sick? Thanks.

Number one is to wash hands often. Avoid crowds. Increase Vitamin C (gobs). Temporarily increase "fast" caloric intake (jelly, candy, extra sugar in tea, etc.), Air out your living quarters twice a day to the outdoors. Take two or three showers a day during cold and flu season. Drink green tea. Gargle with 100% grape juice in the morning. Drink a glass of whole milk before bed. Remove shoes before entering your living quarters (they are contaminated.)Those are the only objective "for sures" in scientific (WHO) research that reduce your chances of catching bugs. I use Airborne, too. Not much research on it, yet. RN

Just keep remembering to wash your hands and you can also try Airborne, I think it's a great product and works well in helping prevent common sickness. It also helps cut your sick time down if you all ready are sick. Hope this helps!!

One word: handwashing.
Most illnesses are transmitted through pathogens that get on your hands and then are transferred to your mucous membranes when you touch your nose, mouth or eyes.
Handwashing is the best defense against this. Also try disinfecting wipes on telephone receivers and computer keyboards, which are breeding areas for viruses and bacteria.
Avoid lip to lip kisses and handshakes until the wave of illnesses at your school has passed.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Make sure you are taking a good multi vitamin and eating right also. Lots of oj and fruit and keep up on your sleep. Get as much of it as you can and you should be able to fight it off.

Try taking vitamin c and echinacea is good too - well, works for me, but my daughter reckons that she gets sick with it anyway, but I think she does not take it until she is actually feeling ill already...
Also keep washing your hands, but don't get paranoid over it, when all is said and done, it is only a cold, and you will live trhough it!
Have fun!
