My partner, a girl, and I are in a high school theatre competition. We are going to sing a duet. I am a bass/tenor 2 and my partner is a soprano/alto. What good comedic duet could we sing? It has to be something published, and preferably from Broadway. It CANNOT be anything like mainstream pop or rock; it has to have been performed on Broadway. Thanks!!!

Either:
1) Accident Waiting To Happen- The Drowsy Chaperone. It's cheesy, but cheesy sometimes wins! Moderate Tempo

2) Next 10 Minutes- The Last 5 Years. It's a slow song. But it's very VERY good.

3)If I Told You- The Wedding Singer. Amazing. Good harmonies at the end. Not too slow.

4)Anything Goes- Anything Goes. Not written as a duet, but I have seen it performed this way several times. Fast tempo. Cole Porter's best work as far as rhyming goes.

All the lyrics to these songs can be found at www.stlyrics.com
Samples: www.amazon.com will have 30 sec. samples. Just search for the show, and click on track samples.

www.sh-k-boom.com/ShiningStar has an audition track for "Next 10 min." on their website. I believe it's 99 cents. For the other tracks... I'm afraid I don't have that information, but some websites sell the piano books if you have an accompanist!

Hope this helps.

A little Priest from Sweeny Todd. Anything You Can Do from Annie Get Your Gun. Master of the House from Les Miserables. Lovely from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To The Forum. Anything from I Love You You're Perfect, Now Change.

If you can't sing very high then you probably can't belt. Belting is defined ad singing using your chest voice to sing in a higher register, so if you can't sing in a high register, you can't belt. You may have a very strong chest voice, however. Which then, "Learn Your Lessons Well" from Godspell is good and short, it goes in the time limit for pageants. You could also try "Honey Bun" from South Pacific. Just look around and do what feels natural for your voice. Forcing a belt when untrained is the worst thing you can do to your vocal cords.

You want comedy, but not mainstream... Look into a song called therapy. It is from Jonathon Larson's tick..tick...BOOM!!! The parts are crazy. Not too hard to sing, but it is alot of words, It is fast. "I got mad, that you got mad, when I got I mad, and you said I should go drop dead"
