Standard fee for an MOT is £53. However, you can find test stations that do it cheaper, look in you local paper or ask your friends who they use. If a car fails the test, they have to give you a list of the faults/reasons why it has failed. If you need a retest following a fail, some garages will not charge you if you return within 7days, others may only charge a partial fee. If you car passes, but there are items that are "close" to a failure, i.e tyre tread close to the legal limit, you should also get an advisory notice. If your car does fail, most garages will give you an estimate to have the items repaired and a new test certificate issued.
