This pencil-thin thing is nuts. I don't understand why tthe industry woould want a 5"9 to weigh 132. When I, at 5"4, went from 180 to 130 for the first time in 17 years, my mother got worried--only I wasn't trying to get skinny. I had a bad medication.
What's wrong with a 5"9 to weigh about 145?

There's nothing wrong with it. Curves on a woman are beautiful. But would like to look at a fat woman in a bikini or a thin woman who can pull it off?? Same for fashion.. do you want to see someone who can't wear the clothes the right way because the rolls and cellulite distract the audience?? In the "real world" the anorexic or pencil thin look is disgusting, but in the "fashion world" it appeals to the eye.

The fashion industry is all about selling or enticing us to purchase their line of clothing. By using these super thin models they are able to obtain a look that is nuetral. This gives most women the impression that they too can wear that particular fashion.

145 is average for 5'9, 132 is only 13 pounds under, thats still within noraml range. It's nothing drastic like you're making it out to be. being 5'4 and 180 is much much more drastic.

Nothing's wrong with being a healthy weight. Who wants to look like a walking skeleton? I don't know why anyone would give up yummy food just so they can fit into "fashions" that look ridiculous anyway. Enjoy life and eat for goodness sake!!

I don't believe in "weighing this much" or what-not. I believe in looking healthy. I have absolutely no problem with skinny models on 2 conditions: They are *naturally* that thin, and they don't look sick.

I'm 5' 8" and 115 lbs. but I still look healthy. I don't think we should be saying "She's unhealthy because she only weighs this much.."--instead, we should be saying "She's unhealthy because she looks unhealthy."

Typical Model:

5ft8-6ft tall
BMI of less than 18
Measurements: Bust: 32-35, Waist 22-24, Hips 33-35

And yes, it is ridiculous.

HTH : )

Actually, 132 for 5.9' seems like a lot for a model. My older sister is 5.10' and 115 pounds... and I am 5.7' and 102 pounds. My mom is the large one, being 6.0' and 130 pounds.

i think it all depends on where u carry it. if it's in your boobs fine. thighs and butt, maybe. but not healthy when it's mostly in your stomach, and less attractive.
