It's called "The Bible Unearthed" by Finkelstein and Silberman. It's all about how the Bible has this beautiful mythology, but that archeology has pretty much disproved nearly all of it as far as actual "truthfulness" goes. (It tells how there is a plethora of evidence to the contrary as far as the stories of Abraham, Moses, the Exodus, the Twelve Kingdoms, David and Soloman, etc.)

It's a really good book and I'm looking for more of the same, possibly with a New Testament archeological emphasis. Can anyone recommend a similar book?

cnm, you clearly have not read my question. You also seem to be saying that Spiderman is real because the comics are based in New York, which really existed.

vinslave, it's a good start - thx.

I'm still taking down book names if anyone else still wants to contribute, tho. ;)

"God Against the Gods" by Jonathan Kirsch

"The Christ Consipiracy; The Greatest Story Ever Sold" by Acharya S

"The Jesus Mysteries" by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy also their other book "Jesus and the Lost Goddess"

How's that for starters? I'm not sure if that's what you're hunting for but you can take a peek and see for yourself.

You should try The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel.

If we dig in Israel and find ancient sites that are consistent with where the Bible said we would find them, that shows the Bible's history and geography are accurate. One prominate archaeologist carefully examined Luke's references to 32 countries, 54 cities, and 9 islands, finding not a single mistake. These are only some sites that have been excavated: The Pool of Bethesda in John 5:1-15, the Pool of Siloam from John 9:7, Jacob's well from John 4:12, even Pontius Pilate's identity has been confirmed by archaeology! John McRay PH. D. was asked if he had ever encountered an archaeological finding that blatantly contravene a New Testament reference he responded, "Archaeology has not produced anything that is unequivocally a contradiction to the Bible. On the contrary, there have been many opinions of skeptical scholars that have become codified into 'fact' over the years but that archaeology has shown to be wrong."

Interesting looking book. No doubt it will be as argued about as the Ugaritic Gilgamesh Epic and Genesis. I trust the book is more forthcoming than his article - no malice - just a recognition that he argues from the absence of evidence from David on. Dicey do that.
In the new testament, where do you want to begin? The Gnostic gospels and the pseudepigrapha are works which didn't make the NT for not meeting all the qualifications. The first 4 centuries were a constant buzz between Christian centers on the who/what/why of faith. Arian, monophysite - the threads are there.
God's speed.
