My 10 week old male yorkie seems to understand that he uses the bathroom on his puppy pads. I have him gated in my kitchen while i am at work. he hasnt had any accidents all week when I let him out to play. When do you think its okay for me to take the gates down so that he can play around the whole house? Do you think that he will still understand to use his puppy pads in the kitchen? or do you think that he is too young and to keep him gated him?

i have a 9 week puppy and i'm able to take him out every 1/2 or when he whines. we have only had 4 accidents since i got him because of listening to him. i cage him when i'm out of the home and as soon as i come in out we go again, even at night we go out up to 4 times a night right now. i watch him and have learn what he wants. i cage him at night too so that helps, cause he doesn't want to lay in a mess. Remember it takes Time, just like a toddler potty training. Good luck!

I think he's still kind of young. I have a year and a 1/2 old Maltese and it seems that the smaller dogs are more difficult to potty train. I just started letting him have run of the house. Maybe let him have a bit more room, but not the entire house, and see how he does? Gradually give him more freedom. Otherwise, you may come home to a mess. Good luck!

I think that is still a little bit young.. I still keep my 2.5 year old pug in the crate when I am gone for more than about 6 or 7 hours. Leaving your dog out will only tempt him to be bad. Just give him lots of chew toys and kongs in his area and he will be fine. Take him for a walk when you get home. For a dog that small, that is plenty of exercise.

well you can give him full run of the house while you are at home and can keep a close eye on him, while you are away though you should confine him to a smalll area like you are doing now :D but dont let him have full run until you are absolutely sure he is potty trained.
