The dog is 13
This is between mom & son
The son got this dog when it was just a puppy. They were best friends. When the son moved out about 4 years ago, he understanably could not take the dog with, but visited lots. They dog is getting old. Mom had to fly across country. So, son begged to have the dog stay with him, rather than have him be alone all day (like he already was when the mom was at work) and have a stranger come home at night instead of mom (a house sitter). Mom finally gave in and realized it was for the beter. Now after a week of being with son and his family and their other dogs, the dog is very happy. He has friends, company all day (human & doggy), he's alowed on the furniture, and babies that drop food (how fun :)!) Like i said he is old, almost def, and slowly loosing his eye sight. moms coming back and son wants to keep the dog. what would be better going back to being alone all day, and getting love but little attention or

stay with the son and all the stimulation he gets all day. Please give me your honest oppinion and why you think so... mom and son love eachother and get along great. This is going to be a prety big discussion when she gets back though. Also, the kids are very respectful of him, and he them, so that is not a problem at all.

They are mother and son, so they should be able to discuss it. If they both really love and want the best for the dog, they should be able to come to an agreement.

My boyfriend is in the same type of situation. We take the dog one week and his mother takes it the next. This is always an option as well!

Why not work out some sort of 'arrangement' maybe while the mother is at work the dog can spend the days at the sons house. then in teh evening the dog can go back to the moms house. Maybe people take thier dog to a doggy daycare and the dog is able to adjust to the change in enviroment with no problem. This way no one loses and everyone wins...including the dog.

I think the son should keep the dog also. Give the dog some happiness before he dies. I think the dog is happy being with his best friend and his family. I feel bad for the mom, not having anyone though. So this is a big decision for you both to make.

The son should take the dog. This would work out good for mom cuz now she'd have free time and the dog would have other dogs. Mom would have reason to visit son. Son should do something nice for mom cuz we moms are special!

I honestly think, it would be better, for the welfare of the dog, to stay with the son and his family. Dogs need alot of love and attention, and he seems to be happy with the son. It seems so unfair, to be left alone all day. His last few years, should be the happiest possible.

this is probably a question that is soo obvious the dog is obviously much happier at the sons and everyone knows it especially you keep since you pointing it out. Anyways a dog needs to be with people and dogs now since he is getting used to it if not he may suffer separation anxiety.

The dog is thirteen years old, I believe the dog would be better off with the son, not because of anything the mom is doing wrong, but because it is better for the DOG, I could care less which owner retained custody if not for the pooch. The dog is old and hearing and seeing badly, give him some happiness, if he sits at home all alone he'll only be lonely and get more unhealthy, on the other hand with the son, even when the family is away, there is always the other dogs to keep him company. He will never be alone, and it will make him less lonely and hopefully give him a reason to go on living as long as possible. I feel that's best for the dog, mom can visit all the time, she is in no way a bad owner, and if she wants a dog companion, I say all the more power to her...with a younger dog, not a puppy if she's away a lot but a fully poddy trained 2-3 year old dog, who is healthy, happy, and young. More willing to be home all day with a sitter, and spend the evenings with her. In my opinion a thirteen year old dog needs company all the time, with the son there is always someone, either people or dogs, or just other dogs, it should be good for him.
