it dates back to the BC era. men of wealth often had more than one wife...the reasons behind this are as follows:
1. there were few men who could financially support a wife. so parents would allow them to mary a person they knew could take care of her. so having multiple wives was a sign of status
2. the mortality rate of women durring child birth was extremely high due to their lack of medical advancements such as sterilization on instruments and perscription meds.

women durring this time weren't the ones with the money...for them to go off with anothe man was a sign of disrespect and dishonor....a bit male shovanistic...yes....but that was the reason. it's from those time the standards were set...ovbiously therehas been an evolution of the ways society see things, but some ideals still havent come full circle to become equal

Personally, I look down on promiscuity for both men and women. It has the same risks for disease and relationship disruption for either sex. I don't think people need to be virgins until marriage, but promiscuity is just to problematic and usually indicates poor judgment and impulse control. As for the honor killings and such practices, I think its just plain barbaric. Sex is a natural behavior. No one deserves to be killed for it. I think practices like this are the byproduct of basic human biology. Men are, on average, bigger, stronger and more aggressive than women. This very basic condition allowed men to oppress women since the dawn of man, and though size, strength and aggression are not as important to modern human survival, the remnants of savage times continue to guide us. Things seem to be becoming more equal, slowly but surely.

I think those are old fashioned values. Women enjoy sex as much as men so why shouldn't they.Other women who judge are probably too shy or scared to let themselves have the fun that others are getting. Men who judge are hypocrite's.

No, I think the term for a man who does that is "a stupid b*stard!", and I am a bloke. I have never had respect for people, men or women, who boast about their sexual conquests. Basically, they are walking bio-weapons. I am not saying that I am of the monastic persuasion, but I think that sex is something that is savoured in quality, not quantity.
