I am getting married in July, and I am desperate to find a product (gel, spray, mousse, etc.) and a curling iron or hot rollers that will actually make my hair hold the curl for the rest of the day.

I have tried both hot rollers and a curling iron and then sprayed the curls with hair spray, but it never holds like I wish it would.

Any suggestions??

Thanks!

I would like to try to do it myself.

I would wash your hair with a curl activating shampoo and conditioner. Then put some curl activating gel in your hair. Put curlers in it and hairspray each one. You can then let it air dry, or you can blow dry with the curlers in. Leave the curlers in aaaalll day until the very last second that you have to take them out..... and hairspray lightly again.

My hair is very long and straight. The only way it will hold a curl is if it is totally dry (if it's even a tiny bit damp it won't hold a curl). I spray each small section with hairspray BEFORE I use the curling iron. It seems to give the silky fine strands something to hold on to if that makes any sense. After I curl it, I let it cool down to room temp before I separate it into several smaller curls. Then I spray the whole head again to set it.

My hair is stick straight & will take curl easily, but it never stays. For my wedding day, I too wanted curly hair. I didn't wash my hair the day of the wedding. The lady who did my hair used a curling iron & lots of hair spray, my hair was curly into the following day. When she did my hair, she sprayed it then curled it, then sprayed it again (each section she curled). Then when she was finished, she re-sprayed my hair. It didn't look like helmet hair and was still soft to the touch, but it was saturated with hair spray.

If you are just trying to make it stay curly for that one day (you wedding), I would recommend just having it done at a nice salon. The cost would be almost equivalent of having to go buy styling products. Also, whenever I have had an updo, it always always always stays much better and tighter than anything I have tried to do myself. If you insist on doing it yourself, try spraying some good hairspray (I recommend bumble and bumble) right before you take the curling iron to it, and again after. This will leave some build up on your iron, but it works a lot better than just putting the product on afterwards.

I used antique curlers, they are metal and long, not those pink cushy ones they dont work. Shower, with curl activating shampoo and conditioner and put them in before bed the night before. Take them out right before, loosen them up with a hairpick and spray with a good strong spray like Tresemme.
Do a trial way before your date and then again when the weather will be the same as your wedding day.
Good luck!

Don't wash your hair the day of the wedding, and be sure to experiment with everything before the big day. Maybe call a salon and ask for a suggestion for a product.

It won't work, honey, I'm sorry. A pro might be able to do it, but considering the humidity in July, the curls would probably fall anyway. Unless maybe a perm?

Just be sure not to wash your hair the day of your wedding, probably would be a good idea to not wash it the day before too. The oils in your hair help it maintain shape better.
