My female has layed 7 eggs in a period of 3 weeks. This is the first time for me and I'm not sure how it works. I just read an answer from another question asked and according to the answer it mentioned that once the eggs are layed the male comes and fertilizes them. If that is true how long after will the eggs hatch? How do I know if the eggs have been fertilized? The Male is only a year old and from time to time when she comes out of the box he goes in and plays and moves the eggs around but he doesn't sit on them. I hope you can give me a good answer. I'm inexperience in all this, never excepted for them to breed, Ha Ha. I've should of known!

The eggs have either been fertilized already (this happens before the eggs are laid), or your bird has laid unfertilized eggs-which female birds often do, whether they have a mate or not. More info. about your bird would help. What kind iof birds are they?

The male bird fertilizes the female bird before she lays the eggs. They're not fishes. Or are they?
Is the female sitting? The eggs have to stay warm constantly once the hen starts sitting on them. Some henbirds are not good sitters, they keep getting off the nest. In some species the cockbird sits on the eggs too, in some he doesn't.
You didn't say what species they are. Most birds lay eggs every other day until they have enough. Some species the bird starts sitting after the first egg is laid, others wait until they have a clutch before they start to sit. A 3-week spread doesn't sound very practical, and I suspect they are not going to hatch.

i would suggest either googleing whatever kind of animal you have and read everything that pops up and going to a pet store and ask them.
