Wow.....Is this question asked EVERYDAY (sometimes twice a day?) Or is it my imagination?........ok here we go again.......It depends on where you're getting your tattoo and on your artist. A good artist knows just how hard to push the ink in and knows when to move on to a different area. I don't want to feed you a line of bullshit here. Tattoos do hurt ....but it's the kind of hurt that you can live with. The closest thing that I can compare it to is ....... if you have very been around someone who was grinding metal it throws off this little sparks (of burning metal). Getting tattooed reminds me of these small sparks falling down on my skin over and over. It helps me if I have something to distract me. If I have some one to talk to it distracts from the discomfort. I usually take a book with me and I get all caught up in the storyline and before you know it we're done. Listening to music (or watching TV) helps as a distraction. The last tattoo I got....there was a movie playing on the big screen.... and it helped take my mind off of the discomfort. Some people tell me it hurts worse if they watch while they're getting inked.... personally I've found that if it really starts hurting, watching just exactly what he is doing that hurts so much helps take away from the pain. I'm scheduled to have nine hours of work done (in one sitting) next month. The longest I've done before in one sitting was about two hours. Sooooo if it hurt that bad... I wouldn't be doing it. Look at it this way. You are getting a PERMANENT piece of art put on your body.......it should hurt...... the best things in life are often the hardest and most painful things to achieve. But worth it in the end.

It depends where you get it, and how big you want it. The smaller the tattoo, the less time it takes, and it's obviously less painful. If it is going to be large, and take a lot of time, it will be more painful. Also, location on the body is something that depends on pain. Are you very pain tolerant? If you are, you should be fine. But remember that tender places on your body, will be tender places for tattoos as well. I have 3, all in very different locations, and the pain levels for each were all very different. Hope it helps!

like everyone else said it depends on where you get it. i got mine on the upper right side of my back. its a pretty big tattoo and it took over three hours at first it didnt hurt bad at all i just sat there and dealt with it it wasnt too bad but by the last hour i was really sore and swollen and bleeding and that really sucked. also my tattoo covers part of the middle of my back and my neck and when he was doing it there it hurt like a *****. so if its gunna take a long time and its in a sensitive area then yeah it's going to hurt but its not the worst thing in the world most people can just deal with the pain. and if its something small on your arm or something then it shouldnt be too bad. but no matter what it is it will hurt some what but just think of a happy place and remember you'll have it your whole life so just deal with the few hours of pain your in and you hopefully wont regret it. oh and if you have a few drinks before you go get it that will def help. goodluck

I think it just depends to too much to really say. My sister has three and of course, the one over bone hurt the worst. I have one on my ankle & it felt like an annoying, sometimes ticklish, scratch. I have heard that the color hurts more than the black but cannot say for certain since mine is all black.
But, I had three kids, all by c-section, so the 15 minutes of tattoo time was really nothing compared to that.
And, my sister was with me when I had my tat done & I was distracted by our gossiping ;)
This is not an easy question to answer but I guess my answer is "no".

Like others have said it all depends on where the tattos is being done on your body and how tough you are. I am about average when it comes to being "tough" and I got a fairly large tattoo on my lower back. ( and the lower back is a very hard spot..the spine!) I sat there for close to 2 hours but I made it through and didn't find it painful at all except for the area close to my spine. It really isnt that bad. Just try not to listen to the noise of the needle and focus on something in the room. Oh and another good idea is to have a few friends there with you.

Just like so many have said already, it depends on where you get the tattoo. Areas less exposed to the sun are more sensitive than say the top of your arm. Places on the body that are by design more sensitive, such as the smooth skin near your armpits or your inner thigh, will generate more pain than other places. Getting a tattoo is not painless, but I wouldn't be afraid of it either. The pain is temporary, but the tat is forever.

it hurts to a certain extent yes, but it also depends on how well you can tollerate the pain and where you get it, i currently have 3 tattoos and the one on my lower back hurt the worst where as the one on my ankle thats on bone hurt the least.... and if you really want a tattoo it is your body do with it as you please and if it is something you really want any pain will be worth it, also in many cases tattoos go numb after a while in the process of getting it with a little tingle of pain here and there. && in my case the pain was like when shaving your legs and you nick yourself on accident and you run it under water... nothing too bad, plus if women can give birth to children and live a tattoo is nothing =]

It really depends on where on your body your getting it done at. The artist that is going to do your tattoo should be able to tell you how much certain areas will hurt as opposed to others.
Otherwise once they start it it numbs the area and eventually you don't feel it.

That depends completely upon the location. Some areas are more sensitive than others, such as the back of your calf or the sides of your neck. The most painful tattoo I ever got is on my forehead, I actually cried out in pain when I was being tattooed.
It also depends on your pain tolerance. Some people can just take more physical pain than others.

Depending on where you get it, is how much its going to hurt. The arms dont hurt as bad as other places. The wrist does hurt quite a bit, as well as the insides of your hand. But other than that, if u can tolerate a little bit of pain, you shouldnt have any problem with getting a tat! My boyfriends a tat artist, and alot of people come in being scared, and then they are done..and they go...thats it? And they laugh because it doesnt hurt as bad as you think! Hope i helped ya!! :)
