You may have problems with power spikes in your home.
Do your lights often flicker? Especially when someone
uses an electrical device?

If this is the case, you'll need to talk to an electrician.

However in the mean time, you can reduce the electrical
load on your home by switching to a florescent 'energy saver'
bulb for each and every room and light fixture that uses a
normal bulb.

Most of the energy savers provide 60 watts of light but at
only a 14-17 watt electrical load. Same light, less electricity
used. The flickering may stop as a result, but with a lower
amount of watts used - You WILL save money.

Bad electrical connection will burn out light bulbs also light bulbs below a living area such as a children's room will burn out quickly if there is vibration from running and jumping. There are bulbs you can buy that are shock resistant but they might not be worth the cost. If the bulb isn't below a living area you might have a bigger problem.

When changing light bulbs, don't touch the glass part. The oils from your hands cause it to burn out quicker.

compact fluorescent are a good choice, also try to find a " rural " bulb , they are rated for 130 volts and if you are getting voltage spikes that kill your bulbs these will help . p.s. do not buy the cheapest bulb you can find they have a terribly short life

You keep your light on too much. Use the 100 watt light bulbs. They last longer.
