...getting a blacklight-reactive tattoo? I'm trying to figure out whether I should invest in blacklight-reactive ink.

A blacklight-reactive tattoo is a tattoo that can only be seen when put under a blacklight.

I am a tattoo artist, I wan't talking about ME getting a blacklight-reactive tattoo, I was wondering if it would be worth the cost of buying the ink, if enough people would be interested. And yes, the ink is completely safe and non-toxic.

Maybe if my guitar starts making me money, Imagine how cool that would look if skeleton hands were playing the strings.

When i first started in the tattoo business 7 years ago, there was so many articles about how dangerous that ink was.. But now, i havent seen any articles on it anymore and i been seeing alot more tattoos in magazines that are done with that type of ink.

Most common side effect was itching and redness from time to time, but there was a very few that turned cancerous after a period of time.

I am sure that they have figured out alot in the past 7 years but i for one wont take the risk, or willingly do a tattoo with those inks untill i find more research on them.

**EDIT**
this perked my interest and did some research, yes they are a WHOLE lot safer than they used to.

You should know whether they would be popular or not depends on your area... ask your piercer if the blacklight jewelry sells good or not. this should help your decision alot

photoshop a few flyers and stick them in obvious places around the shop and get the customers talking about it. Print out the many articles on how safe the ink is now, and you should be able to make your money back within the first month or 2

I would get as much info about it as you can like,

how long it stays effective
how visible it becomes in black light
what it looks like in normal light
if it's safe for your skin

depending on how long the technology has been out there, you may not be able to answer some of these questions.

But if it's what you really want, go for it. Just remeber, it can't be undone. It may be cool to get a traditional tattoo with parts in the blacklight-reactive ink so that it has a secret image when under blacklight.

LOL. I have a black light/UV tattoo on the back of my neck. I didn't know it was dangerous at the time. Some people experience lots of bad reactions to the ink while others are okay. Its safety is questionable and I'm not sure how much progression the ink has made over the years.

It never glowed as bright as I hoped it would and now it doesn't really glow at all, but the ink looks like a weird scar under normal light.

I really liked it, but I'm over it and will probably cover it when I get my back piece done. All in all, I wouldn't suggest getting one.

unless you get colors that can be seen in regular light as well i say no and i wouldnt merely because i want to see mine all the time as well stop and think how often are ou going to be spending time in a place where there is blacklight or UV light and that everyone else can see it too so in less you plan on spending the next few years at a club or something i would say no but if you work in a place where there is a constant blacklight besides your bedroom then i guess if its what you want anyway its up to you but me personally i would not i go for traditonal ink because i can see it well without a special light but thats me whats right for you only you know

I personally would not invest in a blacklight tattoo. I just don't see the purpose or use. Sure it would be cool...for a little while. I would suggest that you take the money that you would spend on a blacklight tattoo and invest in an awesome custom piece.

I think that with all the young people out there getting tatoos now that you would make some money on it. They go to clubs and dance where there are black lights and they would probablly think it's pretty kewl to see thier tatoo glowing in the dark. Also it would be a new fad. I would take a chance a get a small quanity and see how it works out. I have 9 tatoos and I wish they had that ink back then.

yes enough people would be interested in getting them. people constantly ask about them on here. even if it is just a general outline or small details in their tattoos.

I've seen them, I liked it but I was afraid that the ink would be toxic

Yes, I definitely would-- it allows you to have a tattoo when you want one. I think a lot more people would get them.
