God I loved being a kid, all that sugar & e numbers & no one to tell you how bad it is for you. Sherbet fountains were a particular favourite though I hated liqourice & still do so I used to throw it away & just eat the sherbet.mmmmm.

Try here for all those childhood memories....

edit; just been browsing the site above, crushed to find that spangles still not made a comeback & neither has gold rush chewing gum. Anyone else remember that? Ahh the 70's a golden age for kids & dentists.....

I do, and they were gorgeous. I spent all my pocket money on them when I was a child. I also loved sherbert flying saucers. I was walking in Deal recently and there was a shop that specialised in old fashioned sweets. There they were and I bought a bag full . Somehow they do not taste like they used to, but it was a real treat as it was childhood revisited.

I loved the sherbert, but HATED the yukky stick of liquorish that came with it, that always went in the bin!!!

Did anyone else ever try adding sherbert to water to make 'fizzy lemonade', and fail dismally?

You can still get them and the sherbert is still a bubbly as ever. If you are not careful it could look like you have rabies, you definitely mustn't laugh when eating one.
however thinking of them brings back fond childhood memories of mum bringing home sweets on a friday evening.

You can still get them! I still eat them fairly regularly. They're usually in corner shops and garages rather than the big supermarkets. My little boy had a box of 'candy sticks' the other day - they were clearly the old sweet cigarettes without the red end!! Needless to say I swiped one from him - yum! You can also still get Black Jacks, Fruit Salads and Love Hearts easily. If you find one of those 'ye olde sweete shoppe's you'll be amazed at what they still sell: pineapple chunks, torpedoes, flying saucers, humbugs, cough candy, lemon and strawberry bonbons drool!

Yes i used to love them but you used to tip them in your mouth at the end when the sherbert was at the bottom and choke yourself.

I LOVED them....don't they make them anymore? I have looked but not seen them!

Do you remember on the news some years ago, a girl was admitted into hospital very unwell, they didn't know what was wrong with her....turned out it was because she ate 11 sherbet fountains everyday!!
