The only promises people think he failed on are the ones he has yet to fulfill.

i.e., his return.

A big question, that can obviously only be answered in provable historical terms, as dogma and belief are unprovable. The historical Jesus set out to restore and purify the centre of Jewish life - the Temple. He would remove the sons of darkness(Roman rule) and establish a true Jewish Kingship and priesthood. These things he quite obviously failed to achieve. All other "Christian" promises derive from these original failures.

All of them, basically.

Read the FAQ.

Jesus failed:
To rebuild the Third Temple
To end man's ability to sin
To end all war and violence
To inscribe the Torah on every human's heart
To bring all Jews back to Israel

Jesus broke rules against:
Substitutionary atonement
Sacrifice outside the temple
Human sacrifice
Working on the Shabbat

Jesus falsely taught about:
The nature of the Law
The nature of Shabbat
The nature of the Eternal Covenant
The nature of atonement
The nature of sin
The nature of the afterlife
The nature of the Messiah

Jesus blasphemed:
In calling the Eternal Covenant fulfilled
In stating that there was a New Covenant.
In calling himself 'Son of God', a title reserved for annointed Kings of Israel
In teaching of a second coming, which is not scriptural (in fact, the scriptures are clear that HaMosiach will fulfill ALL the prophecies in ONE lifetime, no resurrections or second comings)

*IF* Jesus actually did ANY of the miracles ascribed to him, they were done by Satan, not God.

While on the cross, He told the thief, "Today, you will be with me in Paradise."

It is my understanding that after his death and before his resurrection he descended into Hell. Is this correct?

no one knows what exact promises he made in his life, so no one can answer.

Oh, I've read the bible, but that is no real way to base what the real man might have been like.
