Thank you to all who understood my reason behind my question. I love all animals, from the very great to the very small. I posed this question to try and put across how owners of big dogs, such as the Rottie have to work extra hard to maintain such an obidient, biddable animal and when encounterd with smaller breeds who have not (sometimes)had this training, it can lead to problems. Also with children, I cannot speak for all but mine have been raised with children and know that they are below them in the canine hierarchy. Though the hierarchy can be challeanged, I am always at hand to sort any challenges(though very few) out and to this day remain top dog.

I see your underlying reason.

I, too, get annoyed when I'm walking or running my dog (GSP, about 70lbs of dopy friendliness) and we encounter people with fluffballs that they let snap, snarl and lunge at him. Sometimes they will even have their rats off leash in very definite on leash areas, "It's okay, he's too small to hurt anyone".

What happens when one of our dogs reacts appropriately to their snapping (an attack). The bigger dog will get blamed, regardless of the full circumstances.

And to answer your question, I don't hate rottweilers, but I would check both parents very carefully before I got one.

I absolutely love rotties! i have a ten month old female and shes good as gold. Ive only ever had one bad experience with a rottie when i was bitten on the face at the age of 6, but it was completely my fault; i know now through studying dog behaviour that i was really p*****g the dog off, but i didnt know the signs to stop. thankfully, the dog was not put down and i learned my lesson. i cant stand people who have the prejudices against rotties, they are the most wonderful breed 2 own. Good on u 4 posing such a good question. Stuff anyone who has a problem with them. They are beautiful, willing, obedient if trained, loyal, loving dogs and i could never see myself without one

Not me. Rotties are the most loyal and obedient dogs of all. They do have a bad rap due to their PROTECTIVE instincts. I have never seen a rottie born bad. Just raised badly. Just don't mess around in their territory. They will give their life to protect their friend/owner. Who can hate a pet like that? The mean ones I have learned( I work in an animal hospital) are the weiner dogs (dacshund) who bite freely and almost impossible to train. Rat-dogs suck. Pugs aren't much better either. The rotties are the best ones that come in even sick they are friendly and obedient. I don't have a rottie but I work with several dozen of them. I have only seen one mean rottie but he was a junkyard dog raised to be mean.

I do not dislike them. They are beautiful dogs and can make great pets. I do not understand why you must bad mouth the small dogs though. I have 2 beautiful and fully trained Chihuahuas, and they make quick friends with all dogs small and large. I also own a E. Bulldog(trained) that they live and play with all the time. They all go to the dog park togeather and my small dogs will get right in on the fun with Rott's, Shepards, and even Great Danes. It is not the size of the dog or it's breed, it is the way they are trained or not trained. It is upsetting to me when anyone speaks bad about any dog breed. They can all make great pets, and not all breeds are for everyone, but that does not make them bad. I have breeds I would not own, but I love to pet and play with any dog that is well trained, no matter the breed. Good Luck with your dog. I am sure he is beautiful, just as my dogs are.

It os no more difficult to train a large breed than it is a small one. I have seen mostly the small breeds that are pulling on leads and yapping at other dogs and people. They tend to be snappy little things whereas larger breeds are more placid and just ignore the little ones. It is all down to the owners and yes I agree that it is asy to pick up your small dog when it is going crazy and that you cannot do with a rottie or similar. We have a rottie x gt dane and she never any problem. Our terrier is brilliant too unless one of the little ones come runnning up and yapping round them. I would be p--d off too if a human did that to me. wouldnt you???

I love Rotties, have had three over the years. Even had one that jumped a fence to get a mutt that was attacking a child. The child was saved my rott was a hero and the mutt, lets just say that he won't be bothering any more kids. The rott. was breed as a working dog, herding, pulling carts and the like. Just like any dog it depends on the person who owns the dog. A chihuahua can inflict a nasty bite just as well as any other dogs. My rott has been around my granddaughter since she was born as lets the child sit on her, pull ears and just keeps on smiling but pity the poor fool who approaches my granddaughter without permission.

I love Rottweilers! I love even the little butterflies or any dog in fact! What I hate are owners! The ones who get a certain breed because of its reputation as a tough dog and the ones who treat little breeds like toys! If you know your breed, treat it like the animal it is and train it as it should be trained then me and my GSD would love to meet it!

I love rotties, i would never go up and stroke just any though. i suppose its the same for all dogs, if i dont know it i dont trust it. I would love to get a Rhodesian Ridgeback they are lovely dogs. Any dog, with the right training can be lovely, its up to the owners to sort that out.

There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.I think rottweilers are the best.I raise mine around my grand kids. They know their place in the home. They know who the alpha male is.Ever since i got my first rottie,i will not have any other breed.I like all dogs, believe me,as i also have two pitbulls.and they are as well trained as the rottie. What i can't stand is a dog that's tied up,especially to a very short chain. All dogs need exercises, especially rottweilers.

My photo is of my 2 year old daughter lily sitting on my 7 yr old rottie called Jade! They are best of friends, but like all dogs, come from the wild so you should never trust them 100% around kids.

However, Jade is the perfect guard for my daughter and protects her with her life, so u can see im on ur side!
