Forget about what you read in books about "Making them feel at ease" etc because you will only make yourself tense up trying to do so. Basicly, frame the shot and start talking to them. It's easy. Just think of things to talk about and if you cant, ask them if they've had photos taken before and if so, can they remember what the flash looked like etc. While you are having this conversation, you should be continually clicking that shutter and every now and then reassure them you will be ready to take a photo soon. that way, you will get good natural photographs without them even knowing they are being photographed. When you want to get a smile shot, tell them to pose and instead of aksing them to say cheese, tell them to say something random like "dog's whiskers" or "flies dont have tails". That will get the perfect natural smile every time. A good one I heard once was "Mum's undies". So yeah, forget about the list of steps to bring them to ease. Just talk about random stuff and dont let them know you are talking photos. As far as they are concerned, you are still setting up and taking test shots to get the lighting right.

Personalities differ from person to person. you may have to accept the fact that not everyone will be comfortable getting their photo taken. However, the following tips will help a lot

1 - built a relationship prior to the session. if the client feels like they know you and you are not just their photographer, they will be more relaxed.

2 - have background music going. music helps most people relax. make sure it's to their style and not overpowering. even harder music played softely will help your college / highschool guy relax some

3 - talk to them. ask them about their day, their hobbies, etc. getting to know them while you photograph them helps them feel more at ease because it seems that the session is more about them then about you making money

4 - try not to be funny. Whether you realize it or not - you are not in high school anymore so there is a high chance you don't know what these kids find funny any more

5 - keep up to date on trends. Talk to them about current trneds such as clothes, tv shows, american idol, games, music, etc.. show them that you put some time into investigating what they like and they'll respect you for it

i understand what you're dealing with and that i desire you success alongside with your rigidity. I actual have social rigidity disease and it has very much affected my existence. I actual have the comparable problems with photographs and many different issues and that i understand what you mean approximately human beings thinking your impolite or snobby for heading off social circumstances. i've got tried paxil, lexapro, zoloft, cymbalta, prozac and none worked for me. the only ingredient that has ever helped me is xynax yet its very habit forming. in case you will see that a therapist that specializes in cognitive scientific care i might strongly recommend doing so. i'm not sure your age yet do not think of social rigidity will bypass away as you age, it by no skill have been given to any extent further undemanding for me and that i'm 36 now. hopefully you have extra effective success than I did, i'm going to desire for you.

Smoke two joints about an hour before they come to the studio. When they get there...say you forgot some film and leave for about 5 minutes. They will be in the studio breathing in the diffused smoke and getting a small buzz on. When you get back that little crying baby monster bastard will be laid out and smiling by that toothless old hag and everyone will have a great time.; including you…
