Congress is in the process of passing a law that would make it a crime to spank children. It would be considered a misdemeanor, the person would receive jail time, and a fine of $2,000. Now me, Im19 years old and i got spanked. I hated when my mother did it but it kept me out of a lot of potential trouble. Im still a kind of bad *** but it could have been worse. Im not in prison or anything. Takin into account that i may be pregnant with a child right now i do not want some law tellin me how to discipline my kids. There is a line between abuse and discipline. This woman that wants the law to be passed doesnt even have children! What are yr opinions on th issue?

You know, when you think of people with zero morals & ethics, some of the first people you think of are: anyone in Hollywood, lawyers and politicians. It's ironic therefore that politicians feel they have the moral fiber to tell us how to run our lives right down to how, when and where we may discipline our kids. It won't pass. How in the world would they enforce it anyway? Unless you smack a kid in public, how would they know? I believe it's fine to spank on the bottom. I don't think it's ok to slap a kid across the face. The difference is glaringly obvious - even to a politician. I will stop ranting now. I feel much better though, so thanks.

I use to spank my children, but now question whether or not that was the best form of discipline. I now watch Super Nanny and she doesn't believe in spanking. Instead, she teaches the parents how to redirect the childs energy and uses reward symptoms. I can see that this is very beneficial. I have to say that my children are now young adults, and looking back I can't see where my spankings ever really taught them anything or made either one of us feel good. I wish I would have handled things differently, but at the time it was all that I knew.

No one can tell you what to do behind your doors of your home. If someone whats to pass a law for spanking then what will the need for social services be when they remove kids and put them in homes when a child comes to school with bruise marks on there body. This lady needs to have children and then think it over because she has no idea. Spanking is letting the child know that they did something wrong and it's a sort of punishment. Oh and nobody is as good as gold they have just never been caught yet.!!

This is completely insane..I guess I also will be breaking the law if they pass this. They just as soon lock me up and throw the key away because i will just be a repeat offender.. I do not believe in abusing a child but a spanking when needed is very appropriate for disciplining children and to you parents who think spanking is so cruel...please let me know where you live so that i can be sure to keep my kids away from yours.

I actually have a super severe shallowness and spanking did not instruct me to hit... I have been given spanked for hitting human beings. look at how the youngsters are ending up at present. merely how many college shootings, violence, rebel, and so on. have we had from babies who weren't spanked? I won't let a law tell me how I should raise my children. I agree, there is a line between abuse and discipline. I was spanked when I was younger and I turned out just fine. I think a smack on the behind is enough. I think going so far that you leave a welt or bruise, that's too much.

Spanking can be a good form of punishment if used properly. The problem is that some people cannot handle that kind of responsibility and then it leads to potential abuse. And since our government tends to legislate for the the extremes, we get these ridiculous laws like this one which will criminalize the behavior of the vast majority of reasonable people.

If I am correct, the law that she is trying to past mostly pertained to toddlers under three years old. I believe that any parent or person that spanks a child under a year of age has serious issues and my need to fined or something. However, at age two is usually when children get into being defiant, so they need a little tap to let them know you mean business. spanking is one thing and beating your child is another

It makes me angry that people actually want this law past. Let's just let children know that they can do whatever they want and get away with it - I mean, for every action there is a reaction. There are always consequences for your actions, and for them to pass this it's like saying they can get away with anything b/c their parents will have no authority over them. What kind of future America will this be when they grow up and realize the world doesn't work that way?
