I am a wife and a mother. I am 43 years old and I want a bachelor's degree. I have heard that I may be able to get one in a lot less than four years. Does any one know of a four year college that has life credits for older students? Life credits are say for instance I worked 10yrs, and have been A mother for 19yrs and I have heard that some four year colleges give you credit towards a degree. So if anyone may know how I can get a degree in a little less time help me!

Check with your local college or university. Most offer CLEP tests for intro courses. Summer courses are available too. You're still looking at 3 years of classes though, depending on your degree choice.

Don't know about the life credit thing but there are several colleges in the Philadelphia region which offer an Accelerated program. Courses take about 6-8 weeks to complete and there is little down time between courses. Good luck and remember- they don't print your age on the diploma and no matter how long it takes you'll be that many years older anyway even if you don't go to school!

not sure why you ask it here but yes, you can do it in less than 4 years. you'll have to talk to the counselors about this, they'll probably ask you to write papers and evaluate them. If the papers are good enough, they'll give you the credit, but they can only give you so many, can't give you a degree base on life experiences and they need to make money.

you can also take more classes if you can handle them. you can take up to 7 courses in a semester, minimum of 5 for full time students. it's a flat rate for full time student, why pay extra if you can take more, but make sure you don't fail though, bad for gpa and have to pay more. you can also take classes on weekends and breaks. I finished college a semester early because I took AP classes in high school. tell your kids to do the same, it will save time and money.

You're better off calling a college's admissions office...but there are alot of older adults in my classes and no they are not sitting around for the 4 years, I believe if you take the maximum amount of credits the traditional 4 year degree turns into approx. 2 years of continuous study anyway!
