About 2 years I entered a milk chugging contest and drank 1/2 gallon of milk in 3 minutes. Since then, it has been difficult to hold any dairy. Milk, cheese and ice cream make me really gassy and i get diarrhea. It comes up really quickly after consuming anything and even though i have discomfort, my boyfriend as well as others claim that it is all in my head, that I make myself sick when I have dairy. Is it possible to have an "overdose" of lactose? Or is it all in my head and i'm not really lactose intolerant? If it is in my head, is there someway i can "stop myself" from all the discomfort i get from eating dairy?

Diarrhea isnt something that it's in your head, lol

Ive not heard of someone consuming loads of lactose, then becoming intolerant afterwards, but stranger things have happened.

Try this:

Next time, before consuming any dairy products, take an over-the-counter med like LactAid. If it works, youre more than likely lactose intolerant and I would keep a supply in your purse at all times :-). If it doesn't, see your doctor.

Get this resolved before summer time - thats the season for ice cream! :-)

Good luck! (and no more chugging ANYTHING contests, LOL)

I suspect the body may develop allergies as you grow up. This is only my opinion and not scientifically backed.

Being that my family makes alot of wine every year, I tended to drink alot of wine daily. After I finished grad school last year, I went on an all out effort to get back into the great shape I was once in. I cut out all wine consumption. Then during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other holiday dinners I developed the "hershey squirts" when I would drink wine. This was totally unexpected and I can't explain it. Needless to say now I am avoiding wine-drinking now.

if you didnt already have an allergic reaction to dairy, than i would say its in your head.

no worries though, i mean who could blame you. everytime you drink milk, or consume a dairy, your body recognizes what it is, and your brain remembers what happened last time. Its the same thing when your a kid and eat pb and j's everyday for a year, than from that point on, you are just SICK of them...

There's no need to "stop yourself." Tons of people are lactose intolerant. Don't force yourself to drink it if you don't want it or if it makes you miserable! You have all the physical symptoms so it isn't in your head.

it's kind of like when you consume to much of a certain liquor, food, candy, etc. & it makes you sick.... you end up never wanting to touch that kind again...same difference ... you consumed too much @ once and your body is rejecting it!.....although it is mental...not an actual illness.
