you can get a custom fit wine rack put in, or if you need the storage you can put cabinets and drawers in the space. Another good idea for that spac is open shelving for quick access to ceral, coffee, whatever is needed, or even a few cook books and recipe cards, I have also heard of peopel who have kids building a sliding table that can just be rolled out for quick access to "kids table" or for crafts or just occupying your kids when your cooking. and yet another answer is placing a wine chiller in the space, they are about 3/4 of the size of a dishwasher and are almost identical to a mini fride, except it has the "racks" for the appriapriate storage. Inm the meantime while considering the permanet solution, use it as a tuck away for the trash, or that big bag of dog food, you dont have to know what you want to do with it yet, see what you may need it for first to make it functional too! then figure the designing later.

Put in another cabinet or set of drawers. Not necessarily a regular one tho. Think about a specialty cabinet, for instance if you like wine consider a wine rack, or a cabinet w/ pullout shelves for pots and pans. If you are a baker, they have drawers w/ built in bins for flour, sugar etc. Whatever you need they have a cabinet/drawer for it or you can have one built for not much more these days than a modular unit.

UNBELIEVABLE. You must not have a family.

Have doors put in front and place your trash and recycling in the hole. You could have a new contrasting cabinet in the spot. Or a trash compactor.

You could replace it with a cabinet, or a set of drawers.

Personally, i think an extra set of drawers in the kitchen is brilliant.
I replaced one cabinet with a set of drawers, i wish i had done that sooner :)

Measure your space/opening and go to Lowes? or simular and brouse--you might find just the answer. Drawers are always needed or of use it seems.
