Okay. Here is the situation. I was strongly attracted to this girl in my English class. She is pretty and very eloquent. I love her eyes so much. Honestly I find her smile irresistible.I have wanted to get to know her better in the last 6 days. Today I saw her smoking cigarettes. As soon as I saw her smoking, I was shattered. I just can't stand the smell of cigarettes. Is my reaction natural? What is it like to date a smoker? How hard is it for a non-smoker guy to tolerate a girlfriend who smokes? What are some common characteristics of girls who smoke?

You must be perfect, I don't smoke but my husband does...I don't mind him smoking, he hates smoking and wishes he could give up...one day he will, till that day comes...if ever..i'll still stand beside him.

I think that your reaction is totally natural. Especially if you are a non-smoker who chooses to socialize in non-smoking environments. We all know that smoking is harmful to our health and second hand smoke is harmful also. Since you didn't have a relationship with this person already perhaps it would be best to look elsewhere. Dating a smoker - do you like licking ashtrays? Both my parents smoked while I was growing up - yuck. I personally could not imagine life with a smoker, myself being a non-smoker - too many issues. When you socialize out they have to get up and excuse themselves frequently to go have a smoke. Then they end up outside by the ashtray with all the other smokers while the non-smokers are inside (you know what I mean). Too much work. Good luck.

I had the same feeling that you had once I found out a lady I had interest in smoked, not good. The smell is terrible, and the taste when you kiss is bad too. I think your reaction is normal, I know it is hard, but I think the best thing to do is talk to her, get to know her, and try to tell her to quit as soon as possible. The characteristics, I am not sure, but she is probably in with the wrong crowd, may be even rebellious. May God go with you in this time.

of course your reaction is natural. for me, it is also a turn off when i see a guy that i like smoke. well all i can say is that accept her for who she is and if it bothers you that she smokes then think about it...would you still wanna hook up with her? when you have a relationship with her and she smokes a lot in front of will it cause you both to argue about it everytime? or maybe you will get used to it? For me, i never wanted a guy that i date to smoke. my boyfriend now of three years smokes maybe like a few times a year when he is around with his friends but he knows i really hate it when he smokes. He stopped already just for me.
Usually girls smoke to relieve their stress....that is what mnay of my firiends tell me. Just try to get to know her first :)

These are HABITS. Yes, I admit, as a smoker, nicotine isn't the best one to have, but it is nonetheless.
Your going to have to ask youself how much you really like this girl. Each person in a relationship has habits that the other won't like. You need to overlook these, and see the PERSON.

Smoking is a sure fire way to turn a hot chick UGLY! DOn't even waste your time. Unless you like the taste of ashtrays, cause that's what kissing her will taste like.

it is disgusting to date a smoker, they always smell like smoke and when they kiss you, you will know what an ashtray tastes like.

well my ex smoked it really pissed me off. i too hate the smell and wouldn't kiss him until he had a drink or something. at the time i was disappointed with him too but fine if he wants to kill himself,let him go ahead, not that he has anything to do with me now.

Don't be a dope. Go for it. If you like her that much, go for it. Letting something like smoking ruin it for you would be foolish.

nasty breath, yellowed teeth after a while, and asking to get cancer, emphysema, etc.
