I mean as far as land goes. Is it plausible for a person from America to move there and be able to buy or rent some kind of house or cottage in the country? Is that even an option or is all the land owned. I don't want to live directly in London. Any information would be great so thank you!

Yes you can buy or rent a cottage in the countryside outside London but be warned that real estate prices in the South East of England are extremely high. Even in little villages this is often the case because these are increasingly bought up by wealthy stockbrokers and commuters from the City of London. London has some of the most expensive real estate in the world, more than NYC or Tokyo even. That is one of the reasons I moved to France where life is a little bit cheaper and the quality of life better I think....Still, you should give your idea a try and if it doesnt work then nothing is lost.

I don't wanna put a damper on your plans but I think you've seen too many movies.Only the rich can afford a cottage. The country has nothing to offer, it's unbelievably expensive , it's full of drunken louts , non working refugees . Honestly , it's ten years away from becoming a third world country . I was born there and moved abroad . I have no intention of ever going back !

It is no different than it is here, logistically speaking. No, you do not have to live in London. There are smaller towns. There are houses in the country. That said, it is going to cost a lot to get something nice, regardless of where you live. Depending on your financial situation, you may have to settle.

Plenty of Yanks doing exactly that. Technically all land has an owner, you can't just plant a flag... but there are plenty of places for sale or rent.
