Nope. I think we should take another approach.

I believe we should cut off every incentive Mexicans have to come here illegally - no jobs, no welfare, and close the loophole that makes anchor babies American citizens. No education, medical care, dental care, etc. unless you can prove you are here legally.

Then we should try to help Mexico find ways to keep Mexicans in their country. Figure out why they're coming here and help them to develop systems and programs that will help them take better care of their citizens.

The problem, of course, is that US companies can make much bigger profits by employing illegals so it's unlikely they'll stop on their own. The government needs to impose huge fines so it's simply not worth it. However, the government gets a lot of tax revenue from these companies. It becomes a catch 22 in which the middle class pays and gets dragged down while people on the other ends (the rich and the poor) both get richer.

The other problem is that we're not exactly getting the cream of the crop from Mexico. It's not like doctors and dentists and IT wizards are flowing over the border, you know? And Mexico doesn't really have a desire to keep these particular people in their country, so there's no motivation on their end.

Until we get people in the government who recognize the problem and are willing to do something about it, the middle class will keep paying.

All I can say is, "Vote Tancredo!"

Should the Native Americans bill Anglo Americans for stealing there land and massacring there people?

Should the Africans who were enslaved and made to work for free for hundreds of years and some beaten and killed also bill you? I am just wondering. I am thinking that those 2 bills are going to be very and I mean very big compared to the measly taxes you pay today. Wow what a burden educating a human being.

You probably don't even pay taxes and the sad part is you complain. Maybe Corporations and Wealthy Americans need to stop ripping of the U.S by using tax loop holes that cost the U.S 1 Trillion over a decade by storing there money overseas in tax friendly countries. Maybe corporations should raise the minimum wage so Americans can actually get decent paying jobs and hire U.S citizens first. You must pay them first a living wage. This won't happen because Corporations and Wealthy Americans only care about getting rich and the Republicans will continue to fight for a low minimum wage and replace Americans with Immigrants then they can use the Immigrants as the scapegoat.

Forget it! There is not going to be a fence...that was just more "feel good" rhetoric spoon fed to the gullible before the elections.... Anyone who really believes that 1) a fence will actually be built and; 2) a fence would really stop "illegal" immigration doesn't have much between the ears.

As for the "health costs" quoted by another poster...do some surfing and you will see that 43 million Americans have no health insurance - none -... that's what is driving the cost of our medical care through the roof.

Of course, this could be remedied by a comprehensive and affordable national health care insurance but that is not a priority in Washington.

Whatever it would cost - probably $billions - it would be a heck of a lot less than the fences that would have to be built across the Gulf of Mexico and in the Pacific Ocean up the coast of California to stop the increase in the number of pangas ferrying drugs and illegals over water. Also, effectively monitoring a couple thousand miles of fence is impossible and there would be next-to-nothing to prevent holes being dug under it or through it out in the middle of nowhere.

No - it wasn' their bad idea to put up a fence. In my opinion this is just a waste of money unless we add enough border guards or national guard to constantly patrol the fence.

This kind of idea did not work for East Germany and Russia during the Cold War with the Berlin Wall and the fences between East and Wet Germany and I do not believe it will work for us.

Do you think Mexico should charge the US for the money not paid according to the federal minimum, for the hours that thousand of Mexicans had worked on US strawberry, orange, grape, apple fields, or those who work in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami Beach housecleaning, restaurants, construction?... Hmmm... guess USA would end up owning more to Mexico

lol a fence? you could build a fence all you want, we humans have invented something called tunnels and I think they know how to use them. So no a fence is a waste of money and time. It will not make a difference at all. Go ahead and blow the money on it and just watch the numbers stay the same.

Absolutely not - the decision to put up this fence is that of the US - therefore any and all costs incurred by this must be that of the US.

The price of protecting one's border is that country's responsability and no one else's.
