Sounds like she is pretty hot. What is she doing with a loser like you?

First of all, think if this is a deal-breaker for you. Meaning, does this make you NOT want to be with her anymore? OR is your relationship strong enough and are the good times you have with her worth the "sacrifice" of having to hear country music? (A good formula is to consider your relationship as a whole and weigh the "pain" parts against what is "pleasing" - if it's too painful, perhaps the relationship is not worth it!)

On the other hand, if the goodtimes outweigh the bad, then you might think of ways to make country music bearable for you, especially if you are thinking to be with her for a long time :)

Hardcore/traditional country music might be too difficult to bear at first so ask her to listen to country-crossover music. It is music created by country music artists that made it to the "neighborhood" of pop-music. I think, in time, you'll be able to find something you like and as you learn to appreciate this, you might learn to appreciate what she likes.

If you cannot stand the music, you can focus on the lyrics. Some of them are so sickeningly sad that it is comical (I know this sounds twisted but it just IS) and others have humorous lyrics (haven't you heard "Grandma Got Ran Over By a Raindeer"?) while others yet have stories to tell. Actually, some of them (the lovesongs) have very beautiful, meaninful words. If you look at it this way, the lyrics might make it easier for you to listen or you might even find an artist whose lyrics you can tolerate.

Being with someone you love takes compromise. It is not all the time that you will agree and getting along is not always easy.

Try to have fun with it and try to listen from her point of view. Ask her what she likes about country music and tell her about the music you love. Make "dates" to take turns listening to her music then yours. You can start with 3 - 5 songs each. This way, you both introduce each other to what you like and you are both enriching your musical savy if not tastes.

Good luck!

I did not like country music either. My ex did. For years I would not listen to it with her. It was one of many strains on our relationship. I have since made myself listen. It is not all bad. It was actually kind of fun to sing along in the car together once in a while. If this lady is worth it - give it a try. It will show her that you care. It did not save our marriage. But at least I tried, and showed her that I was flexible.

I had a girlfriend who absolutely refused to listen to any music that was NOT country. She always grew mad whenever I switched it from 93.7 TheBull to 105.7 ThePOINT. I refused to go back out with her because she would never compromise. I even told her flat out
"I like country music, believe it or not I do. I like Jason, and Blake, and Tim all that stuff. But I'm not gonna give up alternative or metal or my other favorites just because you're not into them. I did all I could to support your interests but we have no business being together if you can't do the same for me"
I don't listen to country as much as I used to because of her.
The girl I'm dating now likes a lot of soft rock and some r&b. Me and her have been together for a while because we compromise on what kind of music we like. Since then I've learned to love Leona Lewis, Death Cab for Cutie and Playa Limbo. I even got her to like Heart, some Sabbath, and Steve Miller Band.
You and your girlfriend need to compromise on what music gets played. I agree with Kitty and MamaBear, that compromise is most important. I'm not trying to give you a hard time but she needs to acknowledge that you like other kinds of music but you need to do the same for her. If you compromise with her, things will work out, and maybe you might introduce her to a new favorite artist. If neither of you can compromise on your musical interests than you have no business being together. Again, not trying to give you a hard time, but I'm speaking from experience.
