we just adopted a 9 month old puppy, and my 5 year old dog seems to like her alot, they play all the time, run around etc. but sometimes he gets mad that the newer dog lays in bed with us. I found where my older dog decided to pee on my side of the bed. I couldnt believe it. He has never done anything like this before!!

It's most likely a territory thing since he is a male dog. Use Natures Miracle to remove the soiled area, and make sure that he has gone to do his business before letting him in bed.

Yes, I think he is getting back at you. If you didn't see him do it though, maybe it was done while playing. Dogs get very excited sometimes while playing and don't know that they pee. If you have never had two dogs together - they might just be excited and not know what they are doing. LIke kids, they lose their heads when they are playing and forget about the world around them. ha ha Just keep an eye on both of the while playing. Make sure you take them out to do their "business" after about 10 minutes of playing or so to make sure there are no accidents during play. As for jealous actions, he will get over it soon. Something is new and he doesn't know how to act. Poor thing!

Urinating is a dog's way of making his presence known somewhere. Apparently, using the bed went a little too far for your older dog. He appears to consider it his bed. By urinating on it, he's left a message that goes something like this: "All right, people. Having the new kid around is great and all, but taking my bed is the limit! So I'm putting a new name tag on it." A really smelly name tag.

Sure it would. Your 5 year old is jealous. Keep the new pup off the bed for awhile and see what happens.

Definetly! I used to live with my bro and I have a 8 yr old spoiled dog. And my brother brought home a kitty. So my dog pooped on his pillow. And then pooped in his room every day for a month. Then he finally started liking the kitty and stopped. It didn't matter how much diciplined him, he was that angry at my brother. lol. It'll just take time for your older dog to adjust.

Your older dog is just being a pack leader. The new dog has come into his domian and he is marking his territory just as he would if outside.

dogs don't have the mental capacity to do things out of spite (though it sure does seem like they do sometimes!). what your dog was doing was claiming the bed as his! he wasn't trying to punish you for getting another dog, instead he was telling the new guy "this is MY bed!". i would suggest limiting their access to the bed unless YOU call them up individually. let them have equal time and attention up there. good luck!

well i think that is because the older dog is jealous of the little one. i know this is because my dogs love each other but when i want to watch T.V, both of them fight to sit on my lap. so tried to love as much the same amount of love.

Yes, he probably is showing his displeasure. When my dachshund gets mad at me for leaving her, she poops on my favorite rug. Dogs do have tempers and jealousy issues.
