No. I prefer waiting an extra minute to listening to the phone ring. If the customer on the phone requires more than a minute, the cashier should put them on hold and tend to the register first.

Yes, I do! Essentially they're cutting line, and it's very rare for anyone to put that person on hold while they keep helping me unless it's gonna take *very* long. I've often enough had to wait five minutes or more even though I'd also been waiting in line for quite a while already.

I feel bad for the customer service representative who is so swamped with people in line and people on the phone!

Yes. I manage a retail store. And we always work alone. So, we're expected to answer the phone when it rings (obviously). Well, if I'm already with a customer, I'll excuse myself and answer the phone. Then, I'll ask the caller to please hold, or ask if I could call them back. Then I finish dealing with the customer who is in front of me.

Therefore, I expect the same thing when I'm a customer.

Yes, I do. It's just not right. The clerk should explain to caller that he or she is busy with customer waiting in line and that they will have to hold please. Do it in order, it's not that hard.
