John F. Kennedy

"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."
Ronald Reagan, June 12, 1987
President Reagan referred to the Berlin Wall in Germany, which separated the East and West sides of Germany. Eastern Germany was under Communist control, and this wall was a sign of the alienation of the Eastern side from the Western side, as well as the power of communist Germany. On November 11, 1989, Berlin residents mutilated the wall, and were reunited with family members lost on the other side in their celebrations of a fall of an oppressive government.
Hope I helped.
