DO NOT be offended by my answer.....I.......uhhhhhh.... have the 2.5L in my 92 YJ. Sooooo.....
Given your two choices you offered, a supercharger (see link below) is the way to go........only if you have about $4,000 to spend on one. If you have that much money you had might as well do an engine swap. You could just sell your Jeep and buy one with a 4.0L engine already in place.
Other more common things you can do to enhance performance include: performance exhaust, cold air intake, throttle body spacer, header, performance plugs/wires/coil, ditch some extra vehicle weight, re-gear the diffs if you have gone to bigger tires, etc.

i am pretty sure that the only way to make a 2.5 into a 'non-dog' motor is to move to the moon. there is a lot less gravity up there, and it'll feel like you are driving ... well, at least like you were driving a 4.0 down here.
ha, seriously though, like everybody else said, get a bigger motor or a new jeep with a bigger motor

For the price of a good supercharger that will help at a usable rpm, you could get a damn good start in swaping in a chevy 350.

your $ /H.P. will be terrible , put in a 4.0L then you will have a good base to start from , also there are kits to stick a small block Chev. in anything , check a jeep magazine for vendors
