I have this problem on occasion and I build an imaginary cabin in my mind. I know it sounds bizarre but it really works. I start with the design of the cabin and go from there. You could try concentrating on building an ideal beach or something similar. Mostly it helps me focus and guide my thoughts so I'm not letting my brain go into overdrive. You could try some self hypnosis CDs which is how I started my own little bedtime ritual. Sleepytime Extra tea is also good for calming me down before bed.

I've had this problem go see your doctor. You may be stressing or drinking too much caffeine in the evening. Try eating a light meal and drink water or juice. Take a warm bath and relax. Light up a candle and try to sleep don't think about trying to go to sleep just lay there and relax. If you can't read a book and that may help. Good luck but I would still go to the doctor to get help and target the problem of your insomnia. oh yea and turn the candle off before you actually sleep it is just to help you relax.

Might I suggest that you try to read a book. Nothing suspensful or intense. Try something that will keep you interested enough. I have done this before and it worked. Hope this helps.
