You have to eat the specific foods given, such as grapefruit, tuna, cottage cheese and (apparently) the chemicals in these foods work to make you lose the weight. It was intended for those who have to lose weight rapidly so that they can undergo surgery, but I wondered if anyone had tried it, and if so did it work?

I tried this diet for three weeks.

Before I went on this diet, I was on a pretty strict diet and exercise regimen for a few months. I was trying to lose college application and winter weight and prom was coming up in a few months. I lost about 12-15 pounds this way.

Then I stopped right after prom and I got pretty lazy about the diet and exercise. So I gained a few pounds back. Then a friend introduced me to the American Heart Association diet. And it seemed easy enough.

When I tried it, it wasn't too tough. Really though, 10 pounds is surely a stretch but I did lose weight. I lost about 3-5 pounds (it was different for every set of 3 days) every 3 days that I tried it. So I ended up losing about 11 pounds in 3 weeks, but I gained back about 2 or 3 pounds total quickly. So those 9 days of diet in 3 weeks helped me lose about 8 pounds. Not bad.

That was alot faster/easier than the regimen my trainer put me on which made me lose weight at the ideal 2 pounds a week rate. But I think the exercise and diet is alot healthier and better in the long run for you than the American Heart Association diet. But I had a decent experience with it, so I would recommend it just as a start to losing weight. But then I would recommend that you move on to more legitimate ways.

It looks like you'd be eating about 1000 calories per day on this diet, which, depending on your BMI, would create about a 1000 calorie deficit each day, and you would lose about 2 to 3 pounds a week on this diet. I don't believe there is such a thing as a magical chemical combination of foods you can eat to lose weight. Give it a try if you want; since it's only for 3 days it won't kill you and you would be getting a variety of foods.

I think this is going the rounds. I saw the diet listed on the dieting board on the daily mail website. I once did the cabbage soup diet for a week and was starving and only lost 2lbs and my husband said my breath smelt like a compost heap! Well, you can try it - 3 days is not much, but doubt if you would lose 10 lbs. And it would mostly be fluid that you would prob put straight back on!

This is a fad diet that falsely claims to be from the American Heart Association. Their website describes exactly what you just did and says it is phony and not from their organization.

If you did lose 10 pounds in 3 days, most of it would be water. If you want to legitimately lose weight, you need to aim for 1-2 pounds per week.

Girls and their fad diets. What is so hard to comprehend about lifestyle changes? Why does it always have to be a quick fix?

Exercise and good balanced diet losing 1 or 2 lbs a week is how it is done, all these starve and binge cycles are destructive.

there is a British heart Association one too.
And guess what?
It is a joke too.
No such organisation, and the only way to loose weight is to keep to a good diet and exercise and never lose more than 3lbs in a week
