That's correct. Anyone who "hates" a thing must first consider the thing existent in order to hate it.

Atheists (at least those who are atheistic towards the Judeo-Christian deity) don't hate God.

Who hasn't seen a Christian you felt wasn't following Jesus's example? Does claiming to be a Christian make you one? The answer is yes. A person can be a Christian simply by stating they are one because they are 'attempting' to follow Jesus's example. Religion itself is the education of a philosophy and like all education it is a ongoing pursit. So does this theory transfer over to atheism? The answer is no, because atheism is not a religion, nor is it a philosophy by itself. There are 3 misconceptions that "intellectual" atheists seem to have. Number one being atheists are all 'good' people, unlike the religious who judge everyone, start wars in the name of God, burn witches etc. If you look at our prison systems will you see the majority are atheists, if you look at history you'll see several wars started for greed, envy as well as many others sins preached against. Number two is the idea that atheists are some how more intelligent and superior in not believing this 'god' conspiracy. So the countless atheists locked up for commiting murder, rape, thievery are more intelligent and superior? When Nietze killed God he made himself in His image which made him all powerfull and free to inflict his personal morality. Intelligence isn't always better than wisdom. Number three is the idea of going against science being wrong. What makes science so great it the fact it is a ongoing PROCESS which attempts to find the truth. How can one call themself a man of science if they choose to stop thinking and adopt a theory without all the evidence? Anyway its not like Evolutionism isn't slowly becoming a new religion. Worked for Hitler anyway. To summarize, those who choose atheism are rarely that.

If you hate God, you're not an atheist, because that means that you believe that God exists. An atheist doesn't do that. We don't hate God, we don't believe that God exists.

We will often point out that the god depicted in the Bible (as a character) is cruel, malevolent, jealous, spiteful, murderous, childish, and unspeakable egotistical, but that does not constitute hating God. It is no different from saying that Hamlet has a problem with procrastination.

Bear in mind that the first clause of your question begins with "if," which means that it is a conditional question. The answer depends upon whether the condition "atheists hate God" is met.

Atheists do not believe that God exists. Given that fact, it is highly unlikely that atheists hate God.

Most of us will agree that Santa does not exist. It would be unreasonable to hate Santa.

This is a funny question, and I enjoy his avatar and the name. I think he is trying to play a humorous angle on the whole logic of Atheism, which is kind of as absurd as the logic of a christian, trying to find misrepresentations and misinterpretations in the bible.

So, I think the idea answer to this is not really an answer, which shows the humor and hillarity of yahoo answers, especially the religion and spirituality page. I'm going to say that I enjoyed this little joke, and if people were more open to the humor of religion the world might be a safer place.

Yes, Julian, but remember that the world holds very dear to their beliefs, and that a joke on it might very well be taken as an offense. What you should perhaps pray for is that people are strong and firm in their beliefs but also possess the ability to temporarily remove themselves from it when their belief is being attacked. It is not always easy to stand and laugh at yourself, and it is even harder to laugh at the way of life that you define towards yourself as sacred and holy, be it atheist or christian. Remember this, Julian, people are very sensitive, and no amount of humor can change that.

I will remember it, and as for Johnny 5, I would like to say that I enjoyed it.

If an atheist really hates God, he is contradicting his beliefs. For if you don’t believe God exists, you cannot, at the same time, hate him. We can safely assume that most atheist don’t hate God at all, they just don’t believe in him.

However I suppose that if an Atheist would hate God, it would be the concept of God that the hates. Of course the concept of God is very real. As long as people believe in God or in anything really, that what they believe in becomes real for them. And if enough people believe in something it becomes real (to some extent) for everyone. It becomes something to recon with, something that will impact your daily life, regardless if you believe it exists or not.

For example, a one dollar coin is made from metal, a 100 dollar bill from paper. So in worth of materials the coin is more valuable than the bill. In the past the value of coin and bill where covered by an equal amount of gold hidden safely away somewhere. (There is still gold in safes, but not nearly equal to the amount of dollars existing, would be impossible today) But today this is no longer the case. In fact with the current deficit in US economy, the dollar could, theoretically have only the value of its material. So although we know that a metal disk is worth more than a paper bill, we choose to believe that the reverse is true. And as the US is still the most productive economy in the world, and the world’s second largest economic block, we can do so in confidence, even though the deficit currently exists. Because we all believe that the paper is worth more than the metal, it becomes real. And because we all have trust in the US economy, it can thrive, despite of the deficit.

If one would say that he does not believe in money, this might reflect the concept of money. He would think that money is an invention and that the economy is build on drift sand or on a soap bubble or what not. Yet he too would be confronted by the concept of money and it influences on our daily lives (in the form of coins and bills). I would sincerely doubt if he would be willing to trade 100 dollar bills for coins with you (if so I want his number).

To hate the concept of God, and the impact God has on one’s daily life, through the systems and conventions of those who do believe in him, is not the same as to hate God himself.

You are correct. An atheist does not believe in god so he or she cannot hate something that does not exist.

Yep.. you got that one right. One cannot hate something in which one doesn't believe.

But... atheists don't hate god, who told you that?? Of course we are truly atheists.

Right. Atheists don't believe in God's existence. How can you hate something you don't believe exists?

Right. What's your point? Atheists don't hate God because they don't think he exists.
