Excuse me...that "cluster of cells" has a heart beat after just a few days......it's a living person.

To answer johnocreagh:

A: I define a liberal as anyone who is not a conservative....ie....a democrat.

B: Most democrats support pro-choice....which is just the same as being pro-death in an abortion sense.

I've always wondered that myself. No killing murderers, but ok to slaughter innocent babies for your own convenience because you were too stupid to realize that having sex can cause pregnancy. People should not have sex unless they are willing to take care of a child, because even if you're on birth control it's not always 100% effective.

If the pregnancy isn't to the point of "the quickening", the point where there might, might be a soul involved, I don't have a problem. This was standard practice in the United States till the first anti-abortion laws came into play in the 1815-1818 time period. That point is about 40 days. But don't paint with such a wide brush, not all liberals support the same things. I'm good with the death penalty if it is absolutely sure, but look at all the false convictions that pop up. Not 1 uncalled for death in my name or God's.

It is a mistake to cast either of these issues as liberal vs. conservative. More and more Americans, both liberal and conservatives, are coming to oppose the death penalty for pragmatic reasons, rather than ideological ones. If your premise is that politics determines views on these, you cannot have a useful dialogue on either issue.

Here are a few verifiable facts about the death penalty. As you can see, there is nothing in these that relates to the abortion issue. Please take a few minutes to see the facts, before you lump these issues together.

Re: cost
The death penalty costs far more than life in prison. The extra costs begin even before the trial.

Re: Possibility of executing an innocent person
Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. If we speed up the process we are bound to execute an innocent person.

Re: DNA
DNA evidence is available in no more than 20% of all murder cases. It is no guarantee that we will never execute an innocent person. It is human nature to make mistakes.

Re: Deterrence
The death penalty is not a deterrent. Murder rates are actually higher in states with the death penalty than in states without it. Moreover, people who kill or commit other serious crimes do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)

Re: Alternatives
More and more states have life without parole on the books. Life without parole means what it says and is no picnic.

Re: Who gets the death penalty
The death penalty is not reserved for the “worst of the worst,” but rather for defendants with the worst lawyers. When is the last time a wealthy person was sentenced to death, let alone executed??

Re: Victims families
People should know that the death penalty is very hard on victims’ families. They must relive their ordeal in the courts and the media. Life without parole is sure, swift and rarely appealed. Some victims families who support the death penalty in principal prefer life without parole because of how the death penalty affects families like theirs.

Last of all, opposing the death penalty does not mean a person condones brutal crimes or excuses the people who commit them. I believe that the dialogue on the death penalty should be based on verifiable facts. People should make up their minds using common sense not revenge.

We don't believe abortion is murder because a cluster of cells is not a baby no matter how many times you say it is. That heartbeat is not a viable being and cannot live on its own. Therefore, it's not a baby.

On the other hand, the death penalty is murder no matter how "justified" you think it is.

Because we're against killing people.

Your lie doesn't change that fact.

"Excuse me...that "cluster of cells" has a heart beat after just a few days......it's a living person."

Hmm. Adding two more lies doesn't help you either.

You seem to operate on the notion that "an odd number of lies equals the truth". Can you explain where you're getting that idea?

I don't support abortion, but I don't foist my views of morality on others who might not agree with my pov... while I might try to get someone to make another choice I can't force them. I'm also against the death penalty too.

Abortion of a pre-viability fetus is not murder.

The death penalty can be applied when the person is actually innocent of the crime for which he has been convicted. For reference, check out the number of overturned Texas death penalty cases.

And I'm not Liberal.

first of all, it's called pro-choice and not pro-death, so they're in favor of giving women the choice, if they don't want to, it's their choice, no man can comprehend a woman's state when she is pregnant, especially if she is raped and pregnant

secondly, we are of no authority to take away someone's life because of their actions, they should be punished and a life sentence is much more enduring, but to take away life, that doesn't make sense, I don't see the logic behind your reasoning

we HATE abortion. but we support the right to choose. we are pro choice NOT pro abortion

Simple. Access to abortion facilitates their hedonistic personal lifestyles. The death penalty doesn't directly impact them one way or the other.
