i have heard nikon and kodak are decent

CANON is the best. Sony is next. Nikon/Fugi are decent. Stay away from Kodak (good film, not so good digital cameras).

I suggest that u go for either Canon or Fuji. For canon u might want to hav a look at the SD series. Both brands offers reali great colours and they hav better PnS. if ur going for nikon i rather u go for the Dslr D40. nikon pns are nt up to strandard...so is kodak...for digital.

No, the only brand I would recommend as being decent, is Canon.
Look at the very popular, ultra compact, point & shoot...
SD600
SD630
SD700 IS
or the slightly larger A630 or A640 (both have full manual controls)
