if christians had to seek forgiviness anyway , then what was the death of Jesus exactly for?

and if you are saying that christians asking for forgiviness just "to be nice, but don't really have to" then you can do any crime you wish to do and still be forgiving since Jesus die to erase your sins. Are good people equal to bad people?

Sure if some of the terrorists who killed so many people on 9/11 had asked Jesus for forgiveness they would have recieved it. But of course if they had done that they never would have gotten on the plane because Christians don't do that.

After receiving Christ as your personal Savior, your past present and future sins are forgiven. You are adopted into the Family of God. God is your Father forever.
However when a Christian sins, his fellowship with the Father is broken until he confesses his sin and asks for forgiveness.
You could compare it to a marriage. When you sin against your spouse, you should always admit what you have done wrong and ask for forgiveness. It keeps the fellowship in the relationship open.
