Many years ago I did a term paper on that very subject. To make a long story short Legalizing prostitution would make all prostitutes get a health exam monthly and have documentation to prove it. A "John" could ask for the documentation prior to the encounter. It may also cause the pros to ask the "John" if he has a clean bill of health (and prove it). That would prevent "Sexually Transmitted Desease". Secondly, it would now make Prostitution a taxable business. Imagine the revenue and tax relief. Amsterdam has the right idea.

Yes! It is a trade, and the government is being dumb in not knowing how much more money then can get from this.
I do belive that you should have a license and it have to be renewed yearly, complete with an exam. You have to pass that exam and also be put on mandatory birth control (or have your tubes tied ect..)
I know that there will be LOTS of opposition to this, but it's not worse than what goes on in strip clubs. And uhh...those are legal! There is not going to be a decline in morals in the USA, as it goes on legal or not. There is NOT going to be an increase in divorces, that goes on even if prostituion was never around!!
If we make it legal, then more women (and in some cases men) can make a better life for themselves without having to sell them selves in the worse possible places ever. Crime will go down! We won't be wasting money on prostituion stings!!
Also, people who USE the services, must also have a lisence and a physical exam. That shoudl be renewed yearly as well.
Yeah, the christians are going to get all in hissy about it, but prosition was around in biblical times and Jesus forgvae one!
So lets look at this as a way to increase the economy, not infrige on the rights of others...
**ALSO**
how in the world is it going to be subjective to women? NO ONE is forcing women to go out and sell sex? You hear all these stories about women "being forced" to the streets..BULLCRAP! Everyone makes their own way in the world. She has a mind and she has a chance to either escape it, or embrace it. (this does not go for women who are indeed caputured and forced to work in the sex slave industry, I do feel for them, and pray that they meet Jesus someday, or escape!)

It might cut down on illegal operations that go on everywhere but it would be a hard fight against woman's groups who have the best interests of children in mind. (rightly so)
I would say yes because really I believe it goes on a lot anyways but I would really be afraid of the one jerk who would force his daughter or wife into it. For that reason I think it should be confined to the areas it exist. Nevada seems to have a good hold on it but I am not sure how the rest of the country could handle it.

That would be fine if only prostitutes had STDs, but how are you going to protect them from the Johns that have the STDs? I agree that it would be a very lucrative business with a lot of tax money for the government but it would not work seeing as how HIV takes 30 days to show on a test. So the prostitute can give a whole slue of men/women HIV before he/she knows they have it.

I agree. Tax the hell out of it and use the tax money to give everyone universal health care. Right now its illegal and people still go to prostitutes, why not make some cash off it. Also, I look at it like when you go to mcdonalds. You know your risking your life eating that carton of fries that has 10.5 grams of trans fat per serving, but you do it anyway. At least you have some protection when you see a hooker.

Should it be ILLEGAL?
I think that prostitution is a far lesser evil than slavery or other forms of human mistreatment.
:-)
What is not pleasant is not the act of offering your (male or female) body for sale but WHY you might want to.
It is not the act of prostitution which is the problem but the causes for it- the inherent lack of self-worth which can drive someone to "charge" for the use of their body for a time by another person. The need for money because one is poorer than one wants/should be... The drive to control life, one's own body and others?
Minefield. I had best shut up the noo.
;-)
BTW- I have no problems with prostitutes or their profession but I DO consider myself fortunate to not choose to do it myself, thank you.

As much as I hate the whole concept, I'm not quite sure why it's illegal. If there are two consenting adults involved and no one is getting hurt (physically, not emotionally), why is it illegal? One surefire way to end prostitution as a profitable profession would be to let the government regulate it-that should eliminate the whole "profession" within about 5 years.

Yes it would save many life's, taxes would create centers,to help those on drugs.,it would help do away with child prostitutes which people should be locked way for a long time. selling young children like that or taking advantage of them,It should have been legalized long ago, I personally think its low to do all that .I would never pay, i dont think so anyway.but people do it,so it needs to be regulated .to help lots of people.

Absolutley, although Pimping should remain illegal. No amount of legislation has ever been able to wipe out Prostitution, and no government should get in the way of how you wish to treat your own body, even if it's unhealthy or dangerous. If we regulate it, health issues would be contained and we could tax the hell out of it.

I don't think it should be legal everywhere. Besides, it would be a state by state issue and there are plenty of state that it would not pass in. But the "idea" or prostitution is inticing.
