I have been told that Florida can have me change my baby's last name, which is my maiden name, to his father's last name. I have never been married and I am not married to the baby's father.

The father can insist on his child having his last name. As long as it has been proven that he is the father

No they can't. Also, they might not even have records of who the father is. The baby's name is the one on the birth certificate and will be his until you or he decide to change it.

That's not true at all. Whoever told you that is lying, probably to get a rise out of you. By any chance, was it someone who knew the father?

The legal guardian of a child can petition the court for a name change. if you are the legal guardian than you are fine. if someone else is the legal guardian they can potion the court. an outsider, however, can't.
