Your choice of outfits is dependant on the time of year. I assume that a morning garden wedding is not to be held in February, though you might live in a part of the world that is warm this time of year. In New Zealand or Australia, it's summer right now.

It is also dependant on your age. I do not say this out of anything but kindness, because a woman in her fifties wearing a spaghetti-stap sundress or a mini skirt looks ridiculous, no matter how well she has aged. If you have a neice who is old enough to get married, I assume you are also old enough to be her mother - though not always.

A woman of such an age should wear a light, ankle-length dress with sleeves in a fair color or floral, with a cardigan over it and strappy sandal-style high heels. The pattern on clothes must be matched to the size of the woman wearing it; ie, a very petite woman needs a tiny print, while someone with a more rotund figure can get away with a large print.

Women in their twenties and thirties can get away with a little less. A skirt and twin set, cardigan off or on, or a strappy or strapless sundress would be lovely. This is a ceremony, however, and there will likely be a lot of family around, so avoid too much cleavage or too short a skirt.

When it comes to shoes, always, always, always wear high heels, even if flats are "in". They are ugly and meant for little old ladies who afraid of falling and breaking a hip. If you don't fit into that category, don't wear them. Wedges might be easier if you are going to be expected to walk on a lawn, though.

Finally, whatever you do, DO NOT wear white. Black might be suitable for a formal, evening wedding in today's world, despite its traditional overtones of mourning, but white is always a comeptition with the bride. But don't worry about looking hotter or more nicely dressed than the bride, since if she chose an ugly dress it's not your fault.

Don't forget a hat!

Good luck!

How about a nice calf-high dress. If it is going to be in a garden, then the color should be a pastel, like a light yellow. I think that one of those arm wrap things that goes around the back and hangs off the arms would be nice too. Classy, yet comfortable. And wear some thick heels. You don't want to sink into the grass.

You did not mention how cold it is. But, I think the proper thing to wear is a linen dress or suit.
Nice bright colors, or pastels.
If it will take place in a garden then I suggest a hat as well.
Big jewelry, either fat pearls or large earrings.
Matching pumps, or dark shoes.
Never go for the black dress unless you combine it with a lot of white, or another light color.

You didn't say what time of year this will be...in the winter, of course, pastels and florals will not do...a simple dress or slacks and sweater twin-set in muted colors will do nicely...pair with flats (heels are terrible at an outdoor wedding!)...for spring, about the same thing in soft colors that maybe mimic a soft sunrise (pale blue is always nice) even a hat is appropriate at an outdoor wedding..(nothing too fru-fru, though!)...ALWAYS keep jewlery to a bare minimum..I have two mottos: Coco Channel once said a woman should always check in the mirror before leaving home, and remove at least one piece of jewelry...and my fav."KISS"- Keep It Simple, Silly!!!

i am assuming if it is a garden wedding the weather will be warm. a nice knee length sun dress the one that has spaghetti straps and a casual pair sandals . there is alot of cute summer casual dresses out there depending also on your age is what type dress to wear. you do not want to upstage the bride in anyway.Fashion Bug, Cato's and Goodies stores have beautiful womens dresses and reasonable prices.

Garden weddings are wonderful. If the weather is nice, try a simple, classic dress or suit and wear an absolutely smashing hat. You will look lovely!

Maybe a cute pantsuit (or a skirt whatever you prefer) Like in light blue or lavender with some white sandals,a pantsuit is dressy but still comfortable, considering it will be outside. It could be chilly, or there might be bugs.

What is she going to wear? If she's going for simple and pretty then a cotton or linen dress or suit in a summery colour would be perfect.

Go with something feminine possibly flowy if you can (I don't know what the weather is like by you, by me it's too cold for flowy). Usually for things like this that have a particular theme it's nice to go with it. Have a little fun and try something on you might not normally get.

Something that would wear to a garden party -- something colorful, maybe floral. Think church clothes.
